I know gents. Just a bizzaro world we're living in now. No more pilot-pilot handshakes or a day on the golf course to attain jobs anymore.

It still happens. I walked my buddy's resume into my base chief's office. I asked if I could setup a meeting. He said, "don't worry about it." About a month later he got the call. It probably helps that I'm in one of the smaller bases.

True. They really like persistence. Shows them you really want to be there.

Did your buddy have the online application submitted as well or was he offered the job based solely on his resume being hand walked to the CP?

I don't think they can legally move on with the process without your application in the system...

My buddy put his resume in on the last window and then I went to work for him.

Hey everyone,

I'm planning on attending the Northwest Aviation Conference in Puyallup next month in hopes of helping get my foot in the door with Alaska. I see there's a career seminar on the 20th, and the regular conference on Feb 21-22. Can anyone advise which of those days would be the best use of my time to meet someone at Alaska?

Thanks!

Last year, I went on the first day and it was productive.

When he says first day, not the 20th. If you have the time go on one of the 2 regular days. Sunday could be quieter. Immediately get in line to talk to Alaska (wear a suit and tie), and then when you're done stay until after lunch and see if the reps are different people. If so, get back in line and meet more of them. Same could be done by going Saturday evening and again early Sunday morning. I will tell you the career conference on Friday night is slated to have the CP speak and it may be of great value to hear what he has to say. So on that note perhaps Friday night and Saturday morning is best. Not sure where you live so logistics can be tough but good luck, hope it helps you!

Sorry for the brevity earlier, but the above is correct. I went the morning of the first day of the conference. I wanted to go on the career day, but the evil scheduling overlords did not cooperate, even with the animal sacrifices. I was there 20 min before opening, and by 9 am I had talked 2 of the reps there. I went to a few sessions, and dropped by again after lunch to speak to one more person. Went to the airport after and was home for a late dinner. When I say productive, I mean that I interviewed later and am currently waiting to start class.

EDIT: I did wear a suit and tie. 90%+ of the people there for AS did the same. Be prepared to answer some basic screening questions, such as "Why Alaska instead of XX?" and "What sets you apart from the other pilots here?"
