Alaska Air Hiring
#791
Two years ago they opened the window during the WAI conference. This year the window opened shortly after the WAI conference. I haven't noticed if it opened near OBAP.

Sorry to hear man. Some get bounced because they has a cigar with their brother-in-law after their sisters wedding...true story...Not sure how high up your list they stood, but something else better will come a long. It always does. Keep your head up!

Oh, AS is right up there at the #1 spot on my list. I know I need to get the degree done, but life has gotten in the way over the years as I balanced home, two marriages, divorce (obviously), a daughter, etc. I'll keep plugging away at it and eventually earn the degree and check that box.

Hang in there if Alaska is #1 - At NW Aviation this year John Hornibrook said they were going to have to reevaluate the degree requirement because they can't access people like you who are highly qual'd but lack the degree. Maybe they will kill the requirement this summer, before the next app window.

The degree thing is just an eliminator to reduce the number of apps they have to consider. I think the CP is right to get rid of it. I'd bet virtually NONE of Alaska's pilots have degrees that are useful in their day to day job.

Seriously though, in the last window, more than 2300 apps came in. It is less than the last window. It is possible they will do something in the future, but I wouldn't expect the degree to go away. There is a better chance they will pay for the hotel in training or increase first year pay.

I know Alaska can always be found at OBAP. Everyone always says "WIA" and "OBAP". There appears to be two OBAP events on the horizon. Are they going to be at the OBAP "Spring Meeting and Career Fair" in Las Vegas in April? Or are they just planning on attending the "Annual National Convention" in August in DC?

Yikes, you really don't understand the purpose of a University education do you?

As it relates to being a pilot?? We are not managers or directors or marketing or finance Mike. We are pilots. It is a skill that is developed in a real airplane. I would much prefer that those 4 years went to skill development not enriching useless academia
