What they mean to say is, "since we are running out of more bull $hit mandates to bust your chops and most importantly, in order to justify our self worth, we are now requiring ya'll pilots to wear your hats. This is another FOM mandate which will be used against you, if the need arise".
Seriously, does anyone think that wearing hats is going to boost revenue and attract customers? How's that PA made by some over weight grey haired slob who is really not trained with any public speaking skills working out? That really instills confidence in the flying public, doesn't it? If appearance is what they are after, then perhaps the proper way to approach this issue is to have standards like the military. Putting lipstick on a pig comes to mind. Once again, the pilots are the punching bag. Thanks ALPA!
They're pulling the same thing at "Alaska/Horizon/whatever we call ourselves"...hat's were required for certain uniforms combinations, now if we're out of compliance/told more than once = no pay, sent home.

I hope y'all don't lose the matrix jacket...could have a trickle down effect.

Ready...Safe...Go! (end tangent, I'll go back to my regional/turboprop world now)

Just curious, how is PA and hat wearing ALPA's fault?

Finally, I've been stuffing the suggestion box with that comment "bring back AK's pilot's hats" for years now!

Why would take the time to post something so dumb? If they mandate the hat, I'm pretty sure you will wear it. Would you really take a stand that would jeopardize your career for such a inconsequential thing as requiring you to wear a uniform item? perhaps you should look into that retirement thing.

Perhaps the grass was much greener than some of our guys ever realized at Sky West, Mesa, Great Lakes, etc. Maybe they should just go back there and work. I'm sure they didn't have such onerous uniform policies as the Eskimo puts on them.

While I understand your point, I am a little confused. Your first sentence seams a little demeaning or unprofessional talking about a brother pilot. But doesn't your hat make your more professional? Making hats mandatory again will disengage some which will be less PR also. Actually I'm more worried about the vibe from Flight Attendants after the close margin of passing.

Is GB a captain at Alaska or does he use it in an honorary means when he puts it in his signature block?

I would assume it's an honorary title. I don't think he's flown in years since he's been a management guy for quite a while, even before coming to Alaska. I've never heard of him ever getting any kind of training or checkout while here at Alaska.

Seems odd to carry a functional title you had with another company. He's not a captain at Alaska. He's a VP.
