Alaska thread for Alaska pilots...

I assume the numbers you are referring with the furlough/downgrades happened as Alaska pilots...so they are based on DOH. Although we have plenty of pilots who have experience with furloughs/downgrades before coming to Alaska too, it just seems that DOH encapsulates the experience and attitudes based on time with the company and within the industry.
It's probably an unwritten rule never to compare one pilot with another...idk. Comparing AK residents at ANC base vs ANC commuters by choice, prior-Horizon vs non-prior, military vs non-military, former JetA folks....just to name a few in an extensive list of breakouts like furloughed pilots. There are so many different personalities and traits one can compare but I really began to see similarities as I outlined...mainly inspired by company events this year and witnessing the impact (most recently the hat policy).

So where do you fit in?
Some people forget, we all happily signed the application that said we would wear the uniform, work nights, weekends and holidays. I was broke and unemployed when I got hired. I'm Still happy to have a job. And one that I like. I still do plenty of all nighters, weekends and holidays. I've paid more than my share of dues. This place AND the airline industry in general has had it's cycles of good and bad times but that's the nature of the business. Seems like many of our people don't get that. I have Lot's of furloughs and bankruptcies under my belt in the 80's and early 90's. The industry and AS are having some of best times ever. And the trends are positive. If one is not happy with the job now then they will never be. The airlines haven't had profits and hiring like this since the mid 80's. And before that it was the 60's.
Life is not fair, the are no guarantees, and it's a marathon not a sprint.
I'm gonna get the free hat too. and maybe a few shirts.
(I really don't understand the anti hat drama)
Cheers bro,

Cheers bro,
Rose-colored glasses as I need to see this airline continue to make money and keep a network that is profitable. I would like to see Alaska remain independently strong enough to not feel a lot of change concerning how we do our job is necessary when a new competitor enters the market space. I seriously doubt it comes down to hats but if that's what the VP says we are going to do, then so be it. The bigger fear I would have going forward is merger/acquisition...so whatever keeps us from that, I am for. I will deal with any nuances that come with it accordingly, it helps to keep in mind that as a front-line employee I really am the end of the whip as well.
Cheers to those positively affected by today's results 👍

Latest rumors on hiring? How about current quals
(generally) of new-hires? What's the biggest thing that would set an individual apart from the rest? (LORs, acedemics, volunteerism, LCA, oooooodles of flight time?)

Things to set you apart, in no particular order:
- an Alaska pilot (preferably a current Captain) taking you in to meet a chief pilot
- going to meet the chief pilot(s) in their office
- going to the trade show in Puyallup/WIA/OBAP/Oshkosh
- volunteer activities
- check airman /IP/EP

Hey, I can confirm that the vagabond family started to build an ark when the heavens opened up with all that water.
On another point, commercials on tv and billboards up and down Interstate 5 show only "Alaska" with the "Airlines" no longer there. Everyone is trying to rebrand themselves.
Go Hawks!

Old L.A.B pilot here currently flying a 604 and X for a 135 outfit in California.
-Going to Puyallup in late Febuary to show face.
-I have two buddies starting class in February and March. Hoping they posses a little clout as a new hire.
- Volunteer (Habitat for Humanity, FCNI)
- no management experience (IP,EP). Just a line pilot
Just waiting for the new application window to open up so I can fix the format of my current resume. When I submitted it last time it formatted terribly on their website.
Any advice from you guys would be appreciated.

140+ for the year, high likelihood of more.
