forgottobid,

It used to be Alaskan Airways. They massaged the name a bit due to the rebranding effort.

Just waiting for the new application window to open up so I can fix the format of my current resume. When I submitted it last time it formatted terribly on their website.

Any advice from you guys would be appreciated.
The formatting problem on the website is a known problem, so don't stress about that one. In fact, everyone in my class had the same issue!

From what you posted, sounds like you're on the right track.

The two biggest things you have going for you are the community service and the Alaska flying experience. Your new hire buddies probably don't count for much. Your biggest shot will be schmoozing the 2nd floor guys at Puyallup. Put on your happy face and make sure they are fully aware that Alaska Airlines is far and away your first choice. Make doubly sure they know you're looking forward to moving to ANC and a long career in the ANC crew base (whether you are or not ).

Good luck!

You gotta walk that fine line of being as genuine as you can and a used car salesman, if that makes any sense. As we all know, you have to sell yourself by catering to that specific audience. Since Alaskan Airways in general is very insecure about themselves, one has to spill one's guts to get a job here; you have convince them that you will give up your first born and both of your nuts if that'll get you a job here. No joke.

Well, I wouldn't go that far, 2loud. They DO want people who genuinely want to work there. That gives a slight preference to people who either already live in the Pacific NW or who have family ties there.

They also have a marked preference for people with flying experience in the State of Alaska. In the last couple years, the community service experience has also become a prerequisite.

And, of course, having recommendations from pilots either in management or the Training Department carries a lot of weight. Those are the guys you'll be speaking to at Puyallup, OBAP and WIA. Make sure you put your best foot forward there. Their votes really count.

At Alaska it also helps if you are related to a current Captain, are female and/or have an ethnic background that will help HR check the diversity block. However, that is less important than the three areas I outlined for you.

All that said, as with any interview, how you present yourself will be the key factor. I've seen ex-military guys with tons of multi-engine transport time get shown the door because they didn't fit the Alaska profile.

Again, best of luck in your quest. This is the most hiring Alaska has done in the past 25 years, so if Alaska is you goal, this is about the best opportunity you'll ever have.
