I live in LA and don’t want to move. If someone wants LAX, is it likely they’ll get it?

This time of year with when the vacancies take effect (late spring/early summer), you should absolutely get it as they likely backfill all secondary vacancies since summer is LAX's peak season. LAX has truly become a revolving door. However, anything is possible.

LAX has been an option in the last several NH classes. Most seem to bid out as soon as they can for other bases. It is a very small base only 1-2 aircraft for years. Has been closed once in the past. They usually fly up to 4 planes in the summer but cover it via TDY. In a lot of cases from more senior bases so if junior you can get pushed out of the high fly hours months. Upgrade may be a long road due to size and has not had growth since it was opened. Those who have been there a long while live closer to the airport with day trips driving a long time or distance ends up not fun, especially on reserve.

The risk you’re running is the Boeing seat lock. If you get that assigned to you when you show up to class you’ll be seat locked for 2 years. I would advise someone to not come here unless they’re completely OK with the idea that they may be forced to be based in Florida for a long time. If the last 4 of your SSN starts with a 0-4 youre probably safe, but no guarantees. If you get Airbus you’ll probably be able to get LAX within your first couple of bids if not as a new hire, tends to go pretty junior. With that being said like someone else pointed out, its a very seasonal base with peaks in summer and valleys in winter.

This is true. I've heard some rumors of all 737 classes in the new year, so the 0-4 SSN may not even be of help. We don't know yet.

There's going to be a substantial number of Boeing assignments upcoming for new hires, plan on it.

Equipment lock not seat lock but your point is right on.

Has anyone else noticed that for years people were telling new hires not to come here because there was almost no chance they would get a Florida base and were going to be stuck in a small base for years? NOW, it's don't come here because you WILL be stuck in Florida for years. Pilots just aren't going to be happy about anything.
