From what I understand, this last round of classes will be done by early May. This bunch will probably be the bulk of the myr tdy’s.

How likely is it for a new hire to get LAS right out of training? Is every new hire getting the MD80?

LAS is highly unlikely. Very senior and no growth there presently. FWIK most if not all newhires are initially being trained on the 80.

I’m not sure if any of the new hires have, or are going to the airbus out of training. But, it does go pretty junior in the florida bases. Zero chance of LAS as a new hire. A new hire will go straight to one of the florida bases. You wont know which florida base until some time after ground training. And there you will sit for quite some time.

Will not happen anytime soon. New hires will be in florida but would have a chance at the Air Bus but most likely MD80

Right now in order to get LAS with sufficient seniority to be safe from TDY you're looking at around 3 years....

If you are based in Florida are you expected to fly out of all 3 bases? Where is the best location to live when based in Florida? Also what are the typical schedules like; start, end times, normal days of the week off? If you are TDY is it just for a month at a time or is it more? Just trying to get a better picture. I have read this entire forum and understand what is going on, just looking for everyday life as a new hire! Thanks in advance

As a new hire on reserve, you will be sent to all Florida bases. You will be expected to drive yourself in a rental car all around the state. On some occasions, you will airlined out to meet charter flights in need of a pilot, to pick up planes from maintenance, and various other situations. You can also expect to do something on every reserve day.

There are no "normal" days off. SFB flies almost every day. Other bases don't. However, your days off will typically be Tuesday, Wednesday, and Saturday. Unless you are really senior, and most of the time not even then either, your schedule will not be commutable. Reserve is also not commutable because they are constantly changing what time you are on reserve at. Unless they assign you a trip prior to your reserve day, there is a 90 minute reserve call out. It typically turns in to a 16 hour day, or whatever the FAR max would be.

As a newhire, you WILL be based in Florida. Right now, the Florida bases are so short staffed that you are not normally TDY'ed out of the state. However, they just announced a four month long TDY to Myrtle Beach, which I assume will be assigned to the bottom FO's and CA's. They have also sent pilots TDY from SFB to PIE and PGD, but that hasn't happened as much as the West Coast guys being forced to do it.

If by some chance you were able to hold a West Coast base as a newhire, expect to be TDY to one of the Florida bases for 6-10 months of the year. Some guys only got stuck with it a couple months straight. Others got it for 9-10 months straight.

They have also assigned some newhires to the Airbus. I assume they are the most senior of the class, but I don't know that. Right now, with all the problems in the training department, new hire training is lasting six months, or more in some cases.

I understand that even the best places are a little disorganized. But G4s training is extremely haphazard. It should be called the testing department. Because that’s what they are best at. You’re like a leaf on a raging river when it comes to training at G4.

After reading all the mess that seems to be going on this seems like the wrong question but would someone currently residing in FL near PIE and SFB have a better chance of getting hired if mins are met? Would they even factor that in? The fact that I could sit reserve for almost all the FL bases is intriguing.
