I left Allegiant for a legacy airline after almost 10 years there. I've got to say, my QOL commuting to my legacy job is waaaaay better than my home almost every night job at Allegiant was. I get a lot more time off, and the best part about that is, it's more than two days in a row!

I'm not on the triple, but on the aircraft I fly, I have yet to run in to an 80 year old flight attendant, gay or straight.

While Allegiant may be better than some regionals in some respects, there's no comparison to my current job.

Your argument is absurd. It's all relative. I love when other people try to tell me what's good and what isn't. Take Time magazines "50 most beautiful people" issue for example. Who is some lame author I've never even met, to tell me who is and isn't beautiful?

If you like your new job better, great. I'm happy for you. Enjoy living out of your rollaboard and eating airport food every day for all I care. I meet every requirement to go to a legacy and I choose to stay at Allegiant anyway. The thought of doing 4 day trips again makes me want to puke. Crew rooms, airport food and dodging annoying FA's on overnights also has the same effect. I actually am home enough now to enjoy some of my old hobbies again and I sleep next to my wife every night. I never worry anymore about someone breaking into my house while I'm on a trip and my family is alone. Peace of mind and QOL is more important to me than the extra money I'd make at a legacy. To each their own.

 

Do you mean you get a lot of more days off? I'm sure that's the case but more time off in base? What's your total TAFB for a typical month? Or are you counting time not working in the hotels as time off? I'm not trying to make an argument here, just trying to learn since I've actually never seen a legacy narrow-body schedule before.

 

As an almost 10 year captain at Allegiant, I averaged about 13 days off a month. In the slow months, it could be as high as 15, and in the busy months it could be as low as 8. Of course almost all of those days off were on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Saturday.

I only count days off as days being free from duty. An overnight is still a work day to me.

My TAFB varies from month to month. On average, I get about 15 days off a month. I had 18 in January, 20 in February, and will have 16 in March. The busier months run around 12-14. I also bid for overnights where I live, which I don't get every trip, but I get it on most trips.

For February, I had about 150 hours of TAFB. For March, it's going to be about 250. I was on reserve in January, but didn't fly at all. I did end up with 7 days of short call I had to commute for, but it wasn't any big deal.

 

Yes. Also, enjoy your 17% defined contribution at your legacy as well.

As someone who says they are happy at Allegiant, you seem awfully angry and defensive.

If you want to stay at Allegiant with it's subpar management, subpar maintenance, crappy schedules, and running things like Valu Jet, I hope it works for you.

I hope your not junior, because your time at home may not last as long as you think.

I can also tell you one of the reasons I left was for peace of mind. I don't believe the company can survive long term operating the way they are operating now.

I don't believe that will ever change as long as the current CEO is in charge.
