LAS MD80 FO seems very junior, assuming you get the MD80 in training, probably get it right away. I'm not sure how many more MD80 classes there will be this year, I'm told the focus is on airbus.

PIE seems to vary a bit but overall I would say if you didn't get it in class you would get it within 6 months, possibly before training was completed. PIE flies both MD80 and AB.

IWA seems more senior. 6 months? Maybe someone else will chime in on this, I was looking at the seniority list to attempt to formulate these opinions.

Allegiant does these kinds of things differently than most airlines. It seems what is presented to the new hire class to bid on is not generally made available for the entire company to bid on, at least that was the case when I was hired. Again, someone else can probably chime in to what the current practice is.

 

Thanks man, super helpful! For a new hire, are there any "safe" bases that you see being around long term? I.E. Since commuting really isn't an option with no scheduled overnights, what would be some good bases to consider choosing for the long haul if one got hired at allegiant?

 

Probably bases that have more than one airplane. Also bases that have been around a while. Vacation destinations should always be a safe bet I would think.

 

How junior is SFB?

 

On the Captain side, slightly more senior than PIE. But on the FO side I would say fairly junior, no more or less than PIE. Probably get it in or just out of training. Both bases fly the MD80 and AB.

 

If you were a 2 hour drive from SFB, do you think it would be a "doable" commute? I really like the idea of being based in Florida, but living in north Florida and not central or south can make it a decent drive to get anywhere.

 

Everyone I know who lives two hours away has a crash pad. I should say most do but the few I've known who don't seem to be working way too hard to make it work... particularly on reserve sitting at a spot 90 minutes away for hours. By the time you add up the costs and the time it just doesn't make much sense to me, but to each their own as every story is different.

 

Are new-hires hired into airframe or is that bid on during training?
Is there a list of what equipment is based where?
If given a choice, I'd choose the bus, any base.
Are the MD-80s going to be phased out in the coming years?

Look for info around the company financial call on the 29th for MD80/757 parking schedule.

You bid equipment by seniority within the new hire class. That is if your class has a choice. Classes can and have been for one fleet only( you will not likely know equipment available prior to class).

 

Any idea what the July new hire class was awarded equipment wise?
