You're backwards.... everyone gets a phone interview. Only selected people get the video interview first. Generally lower time on the cusp people get both, but not always.

 

Ok. In my class only a couple got both, over half only got the video, and the rest got only the phone.

No talk or rumors of an EWR base whatsoever. However, this does bring up an interesting point... It's no secret that Allegiant's new (and future) focus will be larger markets, and the NYC area has always been a goal of theirs. EWR has only been up and running for a few months but I'm sure they'll continue to add flights there if it's proving to be a promising market. I've heard JB (the vp of everything) say in conference calls that he sees more future success around the 2nd tier cities (CVG, PIT, CLE, SDF, STL, AUS, IND etc)...

2017 and '18 will be slow growth years. Expect the status quo for a while until we're done with the transition of fleet types. After that... I have no doubt they'll hammer down on growth opportunities again (as the company has an absurd amount of inside investors whose well being is vastly tied to the share price). Growth for now is opportunistic; if an extra airplane pops up for sale that we can grab and get online asap, they'll use it for some conservative growth.

My 2 cents, but read the investor presentations and the quarterly and annual reports, they'll shed some more light.

Hopefully I can get a few of you to take the time to read my questions. I was fortunate to meet one of your guys yesterday jumpseating (seat in the back) and he had pretty good things to say about the company. I will be honest I have never considered coming here, but things in my life are changing. I have a 5 year old son with twins on the way and would love to stay home more often. I have read previous replies and possibly know some of the answers already, but if you could kindly take some time to answer it would be appreciated.

What base or bases can I get out of training?

What is the average experience of the individuals getting hired currently?

I'm supposed to upgrade in May of this year should I wait and get some PIC time or try to come there?

I'm happy to move to base, but if i ended up in a different base and needed to commute is it basically the same? Grab a crash pad?

What is most disliked about the current contract?

Anything else you can tell me?

 

Scroll back through the thread. I don't mean to come off as a d***, but I literally just answered a few of these things multiple times and so have others.

As far as you waiting for your upgrade? Well PIC is pretty important in my opinion. But what do you care about the most? having PIC or Seniority? Plenty of people came to allegiant with no PIC experience and they took the first available upgrade here. So it really comes down to you.

 

If you are living with your family in Atlanta and working for Delta, I wouldnt bother. If I were living with my family in Atlanta and working for a regional or corporate, I'd apply to allegiant and tell my family we're moving. Allegiant isn't perfect, no airline is perfect, but the opportunity here for both professional income and the home life is very hard to beat if not currently at the major cargo or airlines.

After several years here, it still amazes me what being home every night means to my family....more so than the city we live in. I know it may sound cheesy, but realistically being able to attend ball games or social event reliability is worth more to me than a uniform color...especially since we make decent money now..not amazing but no bad either.

 

Do you want PIC or QOL? The PIC box is important to check but you will sacrifice QOL to get it… important decision to discuss with the family. If you are happy moving to a base, this place will be a good fit.

I’ve heard 4,000-5,000 TT is average of new candidates, less for military. You could probably hold every base out of training (aircraft dependent) except for IWA, BLI, PIE… correct me if I’m wrong, fellas! Like a previous poster said, this place is very dynamic and things can change quickly, so don't count on this info remaining valid.

Most disliked about our first contract? You’ll get a million different answers. Guys on reserve have different pros/cons from line holders, etc. In my opinion, the biggest shared dislike is loose language in areas, which causes some implementation issues. It seems these things are slowly getting straightened out. And, with all the different ways we now accrue pay, there have been several pay discrepancies… can be frustrating to get fixed. These are all peanuts when I look at the big picture… my QOL is excellent, I enjoy coming to work, current/future growth is exciting, and I make good money doing it.

 

Agreed! The thought of packing for a 5 day trip again, much less commuting, makes me hunt down the vodka bottle

 

If I made the statement that Allegiant is the best airline in the world to work at, probably 90% of the people who read it would laugh at me.

But I can tell you this. I live in sunny Florida, enjoy the beach and Disney regularly, I don't commute, I'm home every night, my family knows me, I work 10 days per month and make ok money. I fully concede I will probably never make what Fedex drivers make or have the retirement pension of say Delta. But topping out at $230 an hour is an ok dollar amount for a first contract in my opinion (that doesn't mean I won't fight for more). If I wanted a regular airline life I would have pursued it. In my book, if Allegiant ever closes their doors or significantly changes their business model, I'll probably just leave flying. One nice thing is with all the time off I have, there is opportunities to have a lot of other things going on with alternate revenue streams. For me working here after working at the regionals is like waking up from a really long and bad dream.

I would offer this recommendation to you though. Don't commute here, you probably won't be happy. If you have to commute though until say you get the base of your choice, that's a different story. In my opinion people come here for a quality of life, something different than the regular airlines. In order to enjoy it, its best (in my opinion) to live in base.

In the airlines, it always seems you are chasing something, the next level up etc.. Here I kind of feel like I have arrived. I'm not chasing upgrade either in a more junior city, just staying in my base until I can hold it.

I'm still in the honeymoon period I guess, but just my 2 cents.

 

How large is the AVL base and is it available to new hires? If so, how long is reserve there?
