They're speaking to their audience, Wall Street wants efficiencies so that's what they show them. The company knows in reality that those numbers won't work. Expect more pilots and more planes sooner than later.

But for now, in 2018, with the retirement of the MD80, we will actually shrink from 89 aircraft to 82 aircraft. With the consolidation of the fleet type, the pilot count per aircraft will shrink from 9.8 to 7.6 in 2020. The only projected growth is 6 more airplanes in 2019 and another 6 in 2020. That puts our fleet count at 94 in 2020, not 110. There are currently 908 pilots on our seniority list including management pilots and instructors.

Recap: I told everyone back in August that this was coming and that we were going to stop the hiring boom for the near future. Everyone told me I was stupid and some even called me a liar. Then when it was announced they all told me I still wasn't right and it was just temporary. Now it appears they are starting to realize it's not temporary. Strange things are afoot. Grab the horns and hold on tight.

EL was at the training center this past week. I was there for RGS. He is directly involved with the hiring process. The way he was talking was April-May and then starting up again. Our sims are near 100% capacity right now with the transition.

Well I'll just say that it would not surprise me at all for the company to claim no growth like they are doing for 2018 then all of the sudden announce more airplanes and cities. It does happen. The company is opportunistic as far as trying to find 10-20 year old A320s when they become available.
