No allegedly he "nearly" hit the child:
Which is still not a big deal.
So you've got a lady who's been told to leave it in the jet bridge take the Arielle onboard and stuff it in an overhead taking all the space intended for three pax.
Overheads bulk out with pax waiting in the jetway to board and said FA takes the stroller out to stow in the belly.
Over stressed mom goes teary eyed and everybody starts yelling.
Hero guy sees a woman cry and goes into caveman mode.
That's my version of the story.

Wait. So, just because a person is crying, that's automatically an excuse to jump in to her "defense"? Hardly. There are a few people in the world who become blubbering crying babies over the smallest things that don't go their way or as they expected. You could clearly see that she was trying to compose herself a few times, and seemed to starting to calm down when Mr. tough guy, knight in shining armor decided to butt in. From that point on, once HE began the escalation of the incident by threatening the male FA, and the male FA stupidly took him on, the woman escalated her crying once again - clearly disturbed by the whole episode.

I think it was established off camera that the guy in the blue shirt (was it confirmed he was FA or gate agent?) Took the stroller quite violently and hit the woman and nearly hit the baby. That's what set the other guy off. If he did that to my wife or child I don't care what the fine or jail time was, he is going to get hurt. Hiding behind the interference with crewmember law doesn't give you the right to be an *******.

latest news report said that he grabbed the stroller from the bin and "nearly" hit the mom/child... apparently they were never touched... just frightened that he would dare grab it. The mom was told by one FA that she could put it in the bin... and the other FA (who did not know this plan) said it needed to go downstairs. I'd not jump to conclusion on what happened outside the video... too many versions out there. This does not in any way discount the stupid behavior of the FA when confronted by the male FC pax... cooler heads should have prevailed.

Did anyone notice the female FA offering the women something to drink as she was crying? This FA was doing the human thing, trying to console the passenger. She may have also been the FA that offered to stow the stroller in the first place. This is only part of the whole story that we Monday morning quarter backs just don't know.
Obviously the airlines need to do better explaining the rules to this hyper sensitive society that do not understand there are places they need to follow the rules. That they are jammed into a small aluminum tube with too many physiological challenged people that can in an instant exhibit misbehavior, and without any way to escape once they are airborne.
The Captain (with little authority on the ground by policy) probably arrived late to the event and was doing exactly as he was trained, assessing the situation and allowing the customer service employees to deal with it. That was until it appeared violence was imminent, he then used the minimum force necessary to deescalate by physically holding the bald FA from going totally berserk and separating the potential combatants. For his effort, Mary Schiavo, the CNN incompetent aviation consultant accused him of lack of leadership. Shame on CNN for allowing her to spew her anti-pilot venom. Why do they use this vile so called aviation expert, with a proven record that she has no clue to the industry?
It looks like this FA will need a little anger management training and maybe a time out, but who knows where this will go with all the lawyers starving for business. I am sure United management is breathing easier.

Excellent assessment of the situation. I was eye rolling hard watching Schiavo bloviate on CNN this morning after getting in from a red eye. She's a joke.
