I totally agree, so thanks for some fodder to help me talk her employer into another day off.

Somewhat a theoretical question. I will be 46 when I hope to get hired by American, so I think I would have a semi-early pick during the class selection. I live near DC and ideally would pick up the 320 and want to get to DC as soon as possible. How long should it take to transfer to DC if I accepted the LAX 320 (If I was going to stand reserve in LAX from DC for more than a few months, I would rather want to take the LGA 737 instead). It looked like the Junior UDC 320 was in the 7200's out of 7400. Any thoughts on what you would do?

DC has both 73's and 320's (DCA vs UDC). Both fleets have people junior to me. I just got off OE so my guess is they're still in training and had an indoc class of April 18 or May 2. If I had to choose, I'd go with the 73. That way if movement slowed I wouldn't have to commute to reserve all the way across the country.

Default Commuting out of DFW (as a new hire)

...speaking of commuting to reserve... I have a burning question (whose answer may likely change in time).

For a potential new hire who would be living in the DFW area, are there any concerns about initial base/equipment choice and related commutes to those reserve/junior lines? For example, is DFW-MIA better than DFW-LAX in terms of number of flights or density of commuters and the like?

I ask because I know that DFW is relatively senior as far as new hires go (at least a year to pickup RSV on 737s or 32Xs -- and more for a line). I want to believe that a commute from DFW to any other domicile is relatively easy... but what if some are harder than others?

Of course, this all assumes that one has a choice in the matter when crunch time arrives...
