Default Phoenix Domicile Questions

I have nothing factual to back it up, but I feel like they will close the PHX hub during the next downturn. It has to be our weakest hub, maybe I’m wrong, I hope so.

Weakest hub? WFAYTA? If you can find the Crew News with Parker in NYC from few months ago....watch it and educate yourself. PHX is a what he called a level 2 (paraphrasing) base. It’s very important to the system since it takes the pressure off of Lax (which he called a level 3 because of lack of growth capabilities). It also is a clean up city when the system hits the fan. Look at the open time on the 320, a lot of it is covered by PHX pilots that deadhead out or back to clean up the crap the East and Midwest leave in their wake from weather and delays.

As I recall, he said level 1:

-CLT (money maker and more growth, most important domestic city)

-DCA (biggest money maker cause of our size and presence their)

DFW (Growth and well it’s ****ing our biggest hub, HQ, and carries a huge international presence in all regions.)

Level 2

PHX (as said above)

PHL (European launch city)

LAX (Asia)

Level 3

MIA (currently weak cause of SA market but still important when that comes around)

ORD (domestic blood bath (my words) and limited internationally cause of competition, and PHL and DFW taking the majority of the load)

LGA (JFK basically a shell of what it was and no plans to every bring it back internationally, and LGA fawning over Delta). In my opinion. AA gave up on NYC a long time ago and left it Delta, they don’t want to try and get in a battle with them to try and compete.

I live in AZ, but commute to another base cause of the aircraft I fly. This is not about home team crap. It’s about logistics, not feelings. To be blunt, a lot of salty easties said PHX would die as soon as the merger is done....yet CLT has lost more flying to the LAA 737, AND, PHX just added more flying to include 777 to London. Just sayin

Salty Easties as the westie ends with a incorrect fact. CLT has gained more international yet one flight to London is breaking news? I fly the 737 and we are in Phoenix way more then CLT. So for those outside looking in ignore this last paragraph which many then would discredit the rest because of.

However the rest was rather correct. Sadly the writer wrecks it all with his own West hate of east when forgetting no one cares as this is AA not AWA.

PHX-LHR on a 777 doesn't require PHX to be a crew domicile....look at RDU

Ha, you completely spun what I said. I am going to shock you....I am not a westie....I actually started on the east.

What I was saying was East Pilots, not all just some who had a grudge (and many west pilots did too), spewed for years the demise of PHX eventually, and especially, after the merger was finished. It was pure uneducated anger about the LUS/LAWA situation. And that rumor permeated so high that many believed it and many thought it true when PHX drew down staffing levels after the SLI. So much so they Parker and Isom were asked countless time about it, from crew news to investors, that they had/have to endless say PHX is an important hub for the system.

Good for CLT getting international, but they have lost some too, AND, the 737 is just as invasive in CLT as PHX. Saying cause you fly through PHX more is short sighted. Maybe your 737 base covers PHX more while another 737 base covers CLT more.

And yes, a 777 to London is a big deal for PHX. It obviously indicates a small international market is needed there. Regardless of which base is flying it. It would kinda be dumb to start flying to a major international city in a base you plan to shrink or close.

Fair enough I’ll give you that, but LAA presence at RDU was never like it is in PHX now. And I never said it was going to be flown by PHX crews. It is just an example of the company positioning assets and they thought having 777 in PHX is a good idea.

Sorry, I forgot BOS. I won’t even speculate about it, but has much changed there lately either way?
