Default Phoenix Domicile Questions

I am considering AA and live in PHX. How soon can a new hire transfer to PHX if not received during the initial drop? What lifestyle can I expect as an FO? With the current movement how long would it take to upgrade to Captain? What is the reserve schedule like? Can someone please confirm AA only operates the 757/767 and A320 out of PHX?

PHX is very senior for Captains and quite junior for FOs. The 757 is going away this year leaving only A320. Newhires got PHX last summer and others have been able to get in within the first year easy. No one knows what the long term will be like in PHX. Good luck.

If you live in PHX, you shouldn’t just “consider” AA...you should have your App in.

Of the PHX Captains, how many reach mandatory retirement age in 5 years? In 10 years?

This might help put things in perspective.

If wanting Phoenix long term, go to SWA.

Actually, it won't. There's a metric boatload of junior LAX CAs (Legacy West), that commute from PHX. It's a good point to consider, but looking at PHX CA retirements only would be an incomplete analysis.

I would disagree it’s “junior for FOs”. I have nearly 15 years and I have yet to crack 50% on the A320 FO list but driving to work is an enticing drug. Will probably bid out within 6 months to upgrade and as much as I would happily sit 320 CA RSV in PHX, I’m years away from holding it.

All valid points above. I only wanted to imply that one can currently get into PHX very easily. The low man is 300 numbers from the bottom of the AA list. So that is basically right out of initial training. For me driving to work is most important, but there are a lot of other considerations. Point of reference on QOL, I normally hold SCR, but twice in the past year I was forced into a line in ‘layer none’ in PBS. Reserve and line holding near the bottom of the FO side in PHX changes from month to month.

What lifestyle can a new hire FO expect in PHX? If bidding reserve how many days a month are you on call? How often does a new FO get called into fly on reserve? If flying a line how many days a month are you sleeping in a hotel away from your family? I know there are many variables but any advice from PHX based guys is much appreciated.

Thanks!
