Edit: It will help moving more aircraft but won’t help the poor ramp control who has put planes nose to nose. Not pretty.

If they end up with anything like this, it would be an improvement. They're really going to need to find a way to move people across these long distances more quickly as these concourses expand. Even a bus system like PHL has would be better than nothing. I wouldn't expect to see any kind of train/people mover system.
At any rate, this is years and years down the road. So, the suck is going to be with us for a while yet.

A lot of truth to that. They could make that ramp a lot less crowded with a better set of departures and arrivals.
That said, fuel burns would probably go up a bit, so maybe our corporate overlords aren’t too interested. At the same time, our flight ops has us going everywhere at .79, so maybe IDGAF about fuel is in effect.

Wow. Almost looks like the bastard love child of CLT, IAD, and ATL.
Edit: Upon closer inspection, this seems to indicate they’d be getting rid of the entire current E Concourse, which I think is unlikely any time in the next 10-15 years based on all the money they’re spending on it.

I found that image via google while searching for the CLT airport master plan, which is here: http://www.charlotteairport.com/Abou...0-%20FINAL.pdf
There are lots of different proposed expansions and developments for the airport shown in the master plan, with the one I posted above just being one of them.

Yep. Just blocked in to E30 after a 28 min taxi in from 36L. Part of that was spent sitting at 23S watching a dozen RJs go past headed to departures off of 36R and 36C

Three East/west main terminals with people movers up and down them and a bridge (in green) across them like DEN has. Or you could make an underground tram like ATL, PIT, DEN etc but that would be a lot more money for not that much time saved. Build the bridge first then work on the tunnel.
This would allow flow to/from gates without being backed into an alley and both sides to get pushed as once with additional traffic taxing by. Also it would allow expansion if required of another additional terminal down the line.

If there are serious about CLT not being a clustermuck they should design it like this.

A satellite terminal or two would be beneficial for sure.
