got the same email, I’m thinking someone messed up and we were on the shortlist, but wasn’t meant for all the people who received it.

Same thing here. The body of the email made it seem like I probably wasn’t the one who was supposed to get it.

They are due to start calling actual “new” people any week now. And if they are doing 3 classes a month at 45 people each, they probably need to do a lot of interviews so it’s quite possible that it’s legit even if poorly worded and unexpected.

Supposedly AA is going to start hiring in a really big hurry and is behind, so they sent those out. They thought hey had 45 candidates from WIA, but many were previously hired at other airlines and not available. So...they are sending out invites very quickly.

Good luck and take advantage of it. It means getting in ahead of the massive hiring wave that is about to hit.

180 per month estimated new hires starting in January 2022. That is right around the corner.

Just watched his YouTube video, he wants us all to know his internal recommendations handed to him by his father is normal in this industry, but his “networking” is what really got him the mainline job 😃😃 (Yeah he really made a great reputation for himself with UA folks). My favorite line was “If everyone is talking bad about me, obviously I must be doing something right” 😂😂😂.

Honestly, I’m the same age as Garret, it’s not a maturity issue that will fade as he grows older and wiser, he’s just massive ass. “It is what it is” though, I’m sure the HR department loves the guy.

Stay tuned for the exciting announcement of his newly awarded aircraft! His poor sim partner….

I asked on Envoy, as well…the most AA has hired in a year was 1206. That is 100 per month. Does the schoolhouse have capacity for 180? Specifically, is there sufficient simulator time? Have they installed more? Or what?

All the majors are going to be hiring record breaking, maxed out. I would think any contract simulator time would be fought over.

Thanks for the info… it is definitely short notice.

Wow I’d never heard of him until today and I had to check out. I would describe him as having the positivity of Ted Lasso mixed with the look at me arrogance of Paris Hilton / Kim Kardashian. There is some reasonable advice which is probably helpful or maybe motivating to some. The problem is for every 60 seconds of advice you have to slog through five minutes of him driving his BMW, him talking about himself working out, him actually working out, him talking about how he plans to recover from his workout, him waving around a pink post workout protein drink bottle, him talking about clothes, him trying on clothes, him wearing a pilots uniform, him showering his dog, him talking about riding a moped in Italy and discovering that his friend can use someone they sat next to, etc.

Then he defends himself by saying something along the lines of “if haters are talking about you then you’re doing something right,” which is of course nonsense. Haters talk about Hitler, I wonder what Garrett likes about Hitlers self promotion and career progression? Calling critics ignorant hasn’t been done this well since the Michael Jackson interview (by the way, Michael Jackson had a lot of influence and is someone that could easily advance your career so grab your sleeping bag and your overnight kit for a sleepover at Mikes and enjoy the rapid career progression)!

Anyway, decent advice wrapped up in some obnoxious packaging. But hey, good for him for landing his dream job. Hopefully he gets the Airbus so he can put a small travel vanity on the tray table and admire his biggest fan all flight long.

Never use a mirror that has been tainted with someone else’s reflection

He was a Piedmont pilot selling male enhancement pills on his instagram/social media in uniform.

Also makes YouTube videos of other pilots after accidents/incidents, Monday-morning quarterbacking what they did wrong.

So no more video interview first? Or did you already do it?

Google brought me to "IG famous outspoken captain" on another APC sub-forum.

Throwitaway 10-09-2021 03:06 PM

Maybe FAs selling credit cards isn't enough, soon AA will be a credit card and male supplement company that also flys airplanes.

Incredibly unprofessional to have that message on social media while representing the AA brand. The management decisions are mind boggling. United snipes Swayne and AA ends up picking this bozo, what a joke. It's obvious the competition is winning.

UAL picked up Swayne?

Narcissist influencer from PDT. Sells boner pills on instagram, offers people interested in aviation to pay $30 a month to talk to him, makes cringe videos on youtube, and frequent flyer with ProStands.

He made a video following the United 777 uncontained engine failure about how the pilots were scared and didnt aviate, navigate, communicate properly. He was going to get disciplined but his daddy is some big shot at US Airways (where a lot of PDT management came from), so he got him out of trouble.

The guy is a real gem.

morerightrudder 10-09-2021 04:06 PM

Wasn't he a flow? If so, AA might not have had a choice.
Either way, he still has to pass probation...

He bypassed the flow and was hired OTS

KirillTheThrill 10-09-2021 04:11 PM

You boys (and ladies) are hiring all the gems lately. HR department switching things up down in Fort Worth?

we are going to “try” to hire some crazy number of pilots next year, like 2,000+, they are not all going to be rockstars. That’s just the way it will be…

Should be an interesting year. There are a massive amount of Wholly-own regional pilots at Envoy, Piedmont, and PSA that would love to come aboard. Hopefully AA hires more outside the flow. Both United and Delta have been grabbing the Wholly own AA regional pilots like hot cakes this past year.

We need 321 pay override way before we need to fix the company’s problem. Doesn’t effect the vast majority of us how many check airmen there are, not our problem.

I wonder if Garrett got hired because of his dad, or because of his social media presence. His dad is on the CAL scan list somehow, but no one I know has been able to come up with the story…. He’s a current pilot here

LBFO79 10-11-2021 12:50 PM

Well the joke is on Garrett, he just does not know it yet. He is getting on at the worst of the big 3 and FedEx. It won't take him long to realize this place is not much better than the regional he comes from. Maybe they can offer him a direct entry Check Airman position, because we all know that is probably one of the worst jobs at this airline, maybe he can scoop up one of those many unfilled positions. We can't even have our own seniority list pilots instructors here at AA. Have fun in training Garrett, hopefully the 'SIMP' instructor you get actually knows what the heck he is talking about. Then when you get to the line, enjoy not being able to swap reserve days. Then when you hold a line, that will be right around the time our only useful QOL scheduling tool, TTOT, will be going away. Maybe he at least gets the bonus money, because AA has told our union they can only get 150mil in contract improvements, while they give approx 750 mil to our wholly-owned regional pilots.

Anyone hired outside the flow?

Has anyone currently working at an AA Wholly Owned been hired outside of the flow recently?

There were at least 2 in the last class.

But, both had job offers from pre-covid. So no one really knows how it is going to work out now with the new guy. There are been ZERO interviews up to this point of post-covid applicants.

Yup, those start tomorrow. They have not interviewed yet, but one of those is a Captain from PSA. She had an interview offer from pre-covid, though before everything was shut down.

Hardlanding 10-12-2021 05:22 AM

Still haven’t seen or heard anything about the 3 Nov class, they have been sending out the dates a month prior, we are three weeks from the 3 Nov class. Hopefully soon. This waiting is killing me for these dates!

Depends. They have the option to make their submission visible to you or not. Assuming they do: their name, AA email and date of submission will populate on the References page at the bottom, under the Recommendations tab.

Not average cases, both their fathers fly/flew for AA.
