Default Is MIA safe?

https://thepointsguy.com/news/fronti...s-miami-aruba/

It seems every other week I am reading about large expansions of competition in MIA directly focused at competing with AA. Today it’s Frontier and the article cited Delta eying in on MIA? Does AA stand a chance at fending off all the competition and keep MIA a fortresses hub or will it be systematically dismantled?

F9 Guy here...

We are serving different passengers. There may be some overlap but a majority of our customers are first time fliers and/or people who probably wouldn't want to pay even the most basic fare on AA.

Also, NK is coming into Miami in November with more routes than we currently serve. Between the two of us we will have our hands full as it is.

I wouldn't worry.

MIA is a hub for connections headed to Latin America and the Caribbean. American dominates the airport, ULCC's serving primarily leisure passengers headed to Miami as their final destination isn't going to push AA out of MIA or really have any affect on the operation. With this past year being the exception American typically serves a different type of passenger than F9 or NK does, these roles are returning to normal as travel rebounds.

No it's not safe there, currently rated top 5% US crime rate per resident.

except more and more people are joining the “point a to b for as cheap as possible” crowd. Younger generation doesn’t care about getting a bag of pretzels and a half can of coke.

Worried about F9, NK and SWA? No!

DL? You bet, I am. Not sure what the status currently with LATAM is, but DL is planning to invade our backyard in MIA. The LATAM acquisition was a very smart move. Guess what our management did (besides writing tough sounding emails)? Nothing.

Ask Vasu the Great what his game plan is...

Just like younger people tend to vote more liberal as they get older their taste and preferences change, as they get more established in a better paying career with a family. Like my Granddad always said “If you are 20 and conservative you don’t have a heart but if you are 40 and liberal you don’t have a brain.” A 20 year old today will have different priorities when picking an airline then he will in his 30-40s.

I thought The brazilian airline they codeshared with was their response? Not saying it will work but to say they did nothing isn’t quite correct.

After Delta and Latam inked their deal, AA responded by doubling capacity to many SA destinations. Including LIM, SCL, and throughout Colombia. Also a third daily flight was added back to GRU. They’ve also started adding JFK to SA, including MDE, BOG, CLO, and SCL. Also they went after Delta in SEA. To some people that’s doing nothing I guess. Unfortunately the SEA expansion along with the MIA to SCL and GRU adds got walked back for the time being, but that’s COVID.

Well on an unrelated note I was thinking of bidding 73 for Miami and moving to Fort Lauderdale for my first 2 years and see where everything goes from there. I know Covid screwed everything up but what was the average time to hold a line in MIA. What does a typical line and schedule look like?
