Default New Hire (Post CJO) Process

Does anyone know what AA does after the HireRight portion of your background check is complete? Several people in my interview group already received their Indoc date of Dec 1st but AA is telling me that they can’t assign me a class because they are, “still awaiting some clearances”. And that they’ll contact me as soon as they get those completed from HR.

Does this mean they are still working background check stuff? Are they calling previous employers? I’m worried they could be trying to contact previous bosses who might not know to answer a random call from American. Any info is appreciated. Thanks guys!

If it has been less than 3 weeks from your interview date, just relax. They have to get all of the background checks back and it takes some time. If you put an employer's phone number on your application, I would hope it would be one that someone will answer. The reason that you provide that number is so that people can contact them.

Would it be crazy for a NH at FedEx to leave to go to AA? Live near CLT, married, 2 kids, and only 29 years old. Been going back and forth with this CJO from AA.

Not having to commute, and not giving up much seniority, seems like a no brainer. If I were in your shoes, I would do it in a heartbeat. Assuming there is nothing else you have not told us about.

I guess my hesitation is another probationary period and 1st pay. But can't think of anything else.

Im sure there are good arguments to staying at FedEx, but if your only personal negatives are first year pay and probation then don’t let that hold you back. That first year will be gone in no time, but you have the rest of your career to enjoy driving to work. Everyone has different reasons, but I’d choose driving to work personally. Congrats and good luck either way.

We have had numerous guys with 3-9 years seniority leave AA to FedEx. Some that live in CLT…

Aside from the commuting aspect and potential loss of seniority at FDX...consider if you want to fly cargo (often at night) for a living or pax flying (mostly during the day)? There's plusses and minuses to both. I would've gone to FDX or UPS if hired, but I personally wanted to fly for a pax carrier. Your age works to your advantage...you could stay at FDX or leave and come here and still wind up being pretty senior at either company. IMO, if you'd rather fly pax, not commute, and haven't been at FDX very long (less than a couple of years) you might be happier coming to AA. You'd have to commute for a year or two, since CLT is fairly senior. But you'd have to commute forever or move to a FDX domicile if you stay.

AA's pilot contract is definitely lacking compared to our peers at DAL, UAL and SWA. But all in all, it's a good job and those bad contract provisions tend to only bite me in the ass occasionally, not daily. With any luck, we can get those issues fixed (I like to be an optimist).

Early 2021, so almost 2nd year now.
Yeah I hear of guys leaving AA for FedEx. So I was curious to what I'm missing. But thank you all for your help.
