you can list her as your registered companion. She’ll get the same benefits as a spouse (6 D1 and unlimited D2 passes). Once you name someone as you’re RC, they’re locked in for a year. Most guys list girlfriends, fiancé, wives etc but you can pick anyone you want but you only get 1.

When this was discussed a few years ago, the excuse was that getting refunds if you list in J but only fly Y is an ordeal, so it's better not to have that option at all.

Interesting. My parents passed before I joined an airline so I haven’t tested the limits of this benefit so I don’t know that this is an issue but I have to wonder if your spouse’s parents are also included. I know my spouse’s parents can be which would theoretically be 4 total in a traditional family. But if you include all the divorced parents and their new spouses, that number can be as much as 8!

One items to keep in mind (IRS reg, not AA) is that you are taxed on imputed income from non-family trips. Fortunately, the imputed values are quite low - Business Class to Paris might be $200, but it can add up over the course of a year. Basically your W2 will have another $XXX- $XXXX of income on which you need to pay tax. On FO wages it'll be trivial though.
