Top Men are claiming that 401k and pay effective date at date of hire are in APA’s updated proposal. One Top Man claims the ask even includes retro for those particular items.

Ball’s in Robert’s court. You’ll see how much he values labor. Or, more accurately, Lucretia Guia’s court, since Robert farms out these type of things so he can hide and avoid making tough decisions.

Does anyone know if that’s true at AA?

HA! Whoever told you that should do stand-up...

WB can be like that. The WB fleet has shrunk and AA is not interested in actually flying over the oceans, instead preferring to use codeshare partners to do the flying for them.

NB, hang on to your hat Snoopy....

Yeah, I've seen junior line-holders purposely bid reserve but not really from anybody that is senior. The flaw in that plan is that seniority only means something in your group. If somebody has more hours than you so far in the month, you will be used before the other guy regardless of how senior you are. At the end of the month everybody has roughly the same amount of usage.

I flew with a very senior CA who has been at the company 30 years and has never bid a line. Not once.

Also, everyone may appear to have similar usage in terms of GTD, but there’s a very big variance in people’s TAFB, which can be minimized with a good bid.

From the company's perspective that could be pretty smart; would potentially increase the percentage of junior folks that vote for a TA. Same thing they tried to do with vacation pay for the senior guys in the last one.

MIA FO 737 I - 5
LGA FO 737 D - 17
PHL FO 320 I - 6
LGA FO 320 D - 21
Point of order, but that's the first class drop in a while that's majority LGA narrowbody. Hopefully not the start of a trend, but it is likely that you'll get out of LGA and somewhere more conducive to happiness in the first vacancy one is on property for.

As to your point about widebodies, obviously accurate.

AA’s VP of Labor Relations. She… isn’t a friend to labor, to put it nicely.

Yep. But a couple things- people underestimate how much AA management hates labor, and would rather burn the place to the ground than “give away” something. As has been pointed out, the low-hanging fruit that is 401k start date for non-flow new hires and pay effective date is something AA will hopefully NEED to fix on their own and SHOULD fix on their own. I asked some people who would supposedly have knowledge of APA’s updated proposal, and they indicated that it is indeed part of the ask. I personally don’t think it’s a top priority, nor should it be (AA should fix it themselves like Delta did for new hire hotels), but it’s in there. That sorta dispels the notion that “APA won’t even ask for it” and “APA doesn’t care about new hires”.
