American's pilot perception...legit or bogus?

I don't see that at all. Maybe that is what noob regional pilots think (although I didn't when I was one) but that is not the perception when you get to this level amongst peers. Well, I take that back, Delta pilots are indoctrinated to think they are better than everybody else. They are kind of like the Skywest of the Legacies.

Don't pick on Delta. We had the "through these doors walk the best pilots in the world." After the merger they took the sign down. Hmmm, no longing hiring the best? More humble? Sign was a lie in the first place? So many questions, so few answers. Since they're not telling us about why the sign was taken down I wouldn't recommend coming to AA. (that's sarcasm). Most guys are great. A lot of the *ssholes are on the DNP list. IF you see a great trip that no one is picking up ask your FO buds about the Captain before you pick up the trip. :-)

That is a cool framing for a useful thought experiment. One of the problems with comparing contracts (beyond the easy apples to apples like compensation or vacation) is that more complex sections like the scheduling can be written in one way but then interpreted and enforced in another. This is one area in which I wish all our unions worked together to draw true comparisons among contract areas where possible.

UAL is much bigger in ORD. It would be the better choice in the long run, especially if you like widebody flying. However if they don't offer you a job, American will be fine.

As mentioned the real key is living in base though. I am very curious to see how AA evolves over the next decade as the seniority list completely turns over. It is inevitable that the culture will change; it already is.

Absolutely! We have these Brand X vs Brand Y threads but they rarely get into this level of detail. It's very hard to judge the nuanced language until you've lived it for a few bid periods. Now that the pay rates are nearly identical, those elements of the contracts play the pivotal role.

I've been here two. Eighth airline, sixth B737 program in four countries. I was a SimP at AA 7 years ago. Upgrade then was 16+ years. It's two. I was an old guy in my class, #3 (#1 didn't stick around). I got DFW right out of training, and I upgrade in DFW in Jan. TWO FRIGGIN YEARS TO UPGRADE IN DFW!!
Whatever the complaints there are now by those making them will be forgotten tomorrow. There's a LOT going on with more to come. Hang on and just keep hiring! I've got 7 years left. Besides, it's the same all over. #CallMeShocked

The skynazi mentality seems mostly dead. The surrender monkey defeatism still lingers. The union is a mixed bag. Been here over 10 years, captain for 9, attitude in the right seat is mostly optimistic and hungry for change. Still too much ancestor worship in flight management
