I don't see that at all. Maybe that is what noob regional pilots think (although I didn't when I was one) but that is not the perception when you get to this level amongst peers. Well, I take that back, Delta pilots are indoctrinated to think they are better than everybody else. They are kind of like the Skywest of the Legacies.

Don't pick on Delta. We had the "through these doors walk the best pilots in the world." After the merger they took the sign down. Hmmm, no longing hiring the best? More humble? Sign was a lie in the first place? So many questions, so few answers. Since they're not telling us about why the sign was taken down I wouldn't recommend coming to AA. (that's sarcasm). Most guys are great. A lot of the *ssholes are on the DNP list. IF you see a great trip that no one is picking up ask your FO buds about the Captain before you pick up the trip. :-)
All airlines have their 5%. From the outside looking in, some seem to have more like 10%.

From my experience, when talking to other pilots outside these forums, there seems to be some sort of stigma/stereotype about American. Folks seem to rank it below Delta and United amongst the legacies, or flat out recommend to steer clear (never based on first-hand knowledge). FWIW, Wall Street appears to have a similar sentiment (DAL $36.26, UAL $39.59, AAL $12.27). I know American had a bankruptcy in 2011 (United also in 2002) and carries a significant amount of debt, but is there more to it? I haven’t heard anything negative from folks currently flying there, and see a lot of areas where American seems to come out on top (reserve rules, commutability, bases, Sky-view 6, no hat, etc.). Why the seemingly grey cloud over AAL comparitvely? I don't get it.
AAL has a lot going for it. We have tons of retirements, best bases among the Legacys (personal opinion), excellent training department and all the crews I've flown with, with very few exceptions have been great. Most of the things that people complain about with change with time (i.e. current leadership, WB orders, etc.). Plus the strongest of complainers we have here at AA are going to be unhappy where ever they go... the glass half empty mindset is a personal problem.

The Skynazi is mostly urban legend. The new hires back in 2014/15 immediatley knew it. They were telling their buddies how great the guys they were flying with were. Are there exceptions? Of course. Less than 2-3%? And if they're really bad they get on the DNP (Do Not Pair) list.
The doom and gloom mentality is often perpuated by the terminally unhappy like the guys telling their kids or nephews (true story) "do not go to AA." New hires here mostly just shake their head at that. The *****ing crowd got a LOT of attention but the vast majority of the crews knew about them and would just shake their heads. Like the guy complaining at his NEW HIRE dinner. back in the 1990's. The others at the table looked at him like he's crazy "if he's that unhappy why is he here!?!?" Why would anyone listen to his perspective?
