is there a WhatsApp or Facebook group where reserve guys/gals can trade reserve days amongst themselves using the rsv trade form?

People just don't use the resources we have and then whine about not being able to manipulate their schedule. APA App is awesome.

I fly Gucci trips I have no business flying because I know how to use the app and send a text message. It ain’t rocket surgery. If some of you (Suss?) stopped sport bit¢hing and actually learned how to work the system you’d realize this job is only as hard as you make it for yourself.

Lots of great tools for lineholders. Try that on reserve. That's what this thread is about.

BelowTheLine on FB has some chats for reserve questions, no dedicated DFP trade chats that I know of. I’m new here but I haven’t heard of people trading DFPs around, either from my class or people in my crashpad.

Probably obvious, but you should start by getting smart on PBS to maximize your chances of desired days off/work block length. If you don’t know the criteria that will make PBS autofail a layer, or what the 2 reserve waivers do/when to select them, there’s a great (dense) PBS user guide on comply.

As far as TTS what’s on this person’s ballot..? You either have a trip they want or you don’t. Ballot their trip and if you get it (or not) you’ll find out I guess. I just don’t see the need is all.

If I see a trip in OT that I would take for MU that I’m sure someone senior wants for premium, I make a premium ballot and a straight time ballot. If they knew I had a straight time ballot they’d probably take their premium out. Don’t hate the player.. or something like that.

Before we argue PM vs MU, that’s a contractual battle, not with your fellow pilot.
Seniority in turn means a senior pilot will get it during a batch run ONLY if his ballot position is equal or higher than yours. So if that senior pilot has a ballot for the same trip you want but he has it as #2 ballot, and you have it as #1 - you'll get it. Obviously if you both have it as your #1 ballot - he gets it due to seniority.

I agree with the rest of your post.

Reserve flexibility can be summed up simply as:

There is none as a junior pilot. 12 days off, you will get used a lot, and your days off aren't really days off with the exception of 4 a month.

Enjoy

I know there are exceptions and outliers in every aspect.. but I've yet to be used on a day off or a golden day (lineholder or rsv) unless it was a complete operational meltdown and neither of us wanted to extend. Then it was just a DH back to base when the dust settled with that nice extra pay.

The 12 days off on reserve is pretty accurate though, and if you're long call expect to fly AT LEAST min guarantee, you will get used and abused.

You get at least two extra days off if you are working the 85 hour limit. If time off is key, bid LC and proffer for trips early in the month if it’s a busy month.

How are trips assigned? Is it seniority or credit-balanced/first in-first out?

At my current airline a pairing is assigned to the most junior pilot who is legal and available, unless a senior pilot preferenced "call me first". Only after a reserve has accumulated credit to min guarantee do they start assigning based on credit.

Also, it sounds like if you live local and don't want to work the method is to bid short call. Is that correct?
