Either you folks saying this don’t work at AA or you don’t work reserve under current RAS. This is not accurate, at all. Unless you’re just trying to play with words by saying “assigned.” “Pass All” gets awarded first, in seniority order, period, then afterwards trips are “assigned” based on reserve days worked. If every person has “pass all” on the senior person will never work until every junior QLA has been assigned.

Yep, this thread is about Reserve Flexibility as a new hire and for more than a year in most bid statuses you will have none at American Airlines. Looking at my bid status for the month of June all the Juniors are all maxed out near 85 hours while the Seniors are all around 20 to 30 hours.
The slower months aren't quite as brutal but flexibility (defined as getting specific days off) remains quite limited for the junior pilot.

The only flexibility in the summer months is turning pass all off, balloting high credit trips and trying to race to 79:46 (the minimum to make the 5:15 daily credit enough to exceed the 85 limit) before your last day of availability. Then one can get 3-4 days off guaranteed at the end of the bid period, perhaps even a couple more with very judicious placement of the guaranteed 4 day off block.

Last Summer I requested a few days off in August. First day of kindergarten. My wife's birthday. Was denied all of them in PBS. Solved in layer none. Was awarded all of the days off I requested. What the heck is that?

Yep, ended up getting my last two reserve days off from maxing out which was nice because it fell over the weekend. I strategized for that to happen but it took some work. Also I have noticed that CS is keen to this and will purposely not use you at some point towards the end of the month to make sure you are available for at least a couple days during your last reserve block. However with IROPs they had no choice but to use me and give me the weekend off.

PBS is hilarious for a junior person. I requested a Wednesday... In April.... And was denied.

A line gives one significantly more control over pay, days off and type of trips compared to either type of reserve.
The key point to BusBoi's question is if one could be a junior lineholder she ABSOLUTELY could not be a senior SC. The senior reserves not working are thousands of numbers senior to the junior lineholders.
