Layer none will try to honor as many of your prefer off days as possible, and it has to give you 12 no matter what, so it’ll let you have coverage days, everything else being equal. PBS guide on aapilots is kind of a PITA read, but it’s well worth your time.

The schedule you save might be your own.

curious as to how that would happen, considering it is not contractual and if it does happen and you balloted for (during either award OR assignment round) a legal trip that went junior to you, you could call in and get the PROJ awarded to you via the misaward process and then fly the shorter trip.

I would love it if CS purposely did this to me.

Please explain

Simple, there are about a million ways for CS to do what they want to do at their in awarding reserve at their "discretion" under the new contract. It is not like PM or OG getting mis-awarded, totally different animal. We gave a lot away with not much in return. Good luck getting your credit, you will defiantly need a lot of it.

btw, maybe you can answer since the union cannot. I thought under this system the Airline would use less reserves? Whatever happened to that line of bull****? Probably went the same place as when the union told us that RDW would be the great equalizer outside DOTC. lol, keep drinking the kool aid

Depends on time of year. Summer I would lean junior line holder. Every other time go senior SC. You’ll get days off you need/want, better trips, and block half of what you would as a line holder for the same credit due to broken trips assigned with DHs.

So…you were on reserve, but diabolical entry level crew scheduler “purposely didn’t use you” (bypassed you and gave a trip you wanted to a junior pilot? gave it out in PM? Gave it to someone senior to you - maybe that pilot balloted for it? — who knows, you still won’t say…) in order to “save” your hours for a later block, even though they would have no idea what trips would be available at that later block or what you would preference for. Got it. Laughable.

Either way, even If this DID happen, a quick call to CS and you could have been paid for the trip (or gotten the credit if you hadn’t broken guarantee yet) to sit at home. Huge win. Your loss, I guess.

both CS and the union are available to explain reserve awards/assignments pretty much 24/7 (union the following day if it’s after hours but they can still look it up). Try it out.

no koolaid here, hold their feet to the fire. If you let them get away with something they shouldn’t have, you’re just doing the entire pilot force a disservice.

RAS has a Reasons Report as well to try and answer the question on your own. It’s not that intuitive, but between that and the Filled OT tab in APA Reserve, you can usually figure out why you weren’t awarded/assigned something. At least you have more info going into the recorded call with CS.

There are no misawards for reserve pilots and yes trips have went technically where they weren't supposed to (especially outside DOTC where the waters get mor murky) and the union could do nothing about it. Facebook pages are littered with these stories. CS will absolutely meter you if they see the need.

Why didn't you answer the other questions?

They can 'push the button' anytime they like. Obviously it's better to push it before it makes the trip late but their only contractual obligation is to leave it up for 15 minutes if it's 4? hours before show.

Therefore if they see that doing it now would burn someone later in the week when they think they might need more coverage and waiting an hour brings a whole new batch of pilots QLA because of RAP times then they might wait.

AFAIK when the push the button doesn’t matter. The machine knows who’s QLA for sign in and will assign accordingly. The person might not get notified immediately. Case in point, I’ve gotten early trips on the 0300 RAP the night prior. No one was immediately contactable for the trip but the assignment still went out.

I’d buy that CS will delay pushing the button to preserve inter-day options. Like if a trip pops up in the middle of the night with a 0900 sign-in, but the next QLA pilots are 0300/0500 RAPs. I could see them delaying the run until closer to 0700 in case an earlier trip pops up. But I don’t think there’s a mechanism for CS to bypass a pilot higher up the assignment order. I don’t think they’re capable of the 4D chess required to project out later in the week.

I’m not Team CS, sometimes it’s not readily apparent why you did/did not get assigned trip, but 90% of the time it’s because a lineholder picked it up or someone senior to you got awarded (either Pass All or the trip itself).
