You've never been to the Middle East, have you.

I have...DXB is not a bad spot. So are many other places. In this economy adaptability will help you realize full earning potential.

DXB is the Middle East "light." For the true infidel experience you need to go somewhere much less accommodating of westerners, which is pretty much everywhere else. Manama and Doha aren't too bad either. There's nothing quite like experiencing racism from the other side to open ones eyes.

I guess expatting for 22 years, I don't mind asking which carrier you've been with. Flying in and out of DXB or DOH does not even begin to give one a taste of what spending an extended period of time there. Everyone has ther likes and dislikes. I guess if one is faced with college tuition, a mortgage on a house that's valued less than the mortgage, it's a viable choice with a very alternate life style and a bit of a culture adjustment.

Overall, there are always a good group of support among the expat community no matter the location.

Good luck to all the lads and lasses at AA!

Heard from a source that there will be no pilot furloughs at AA if they get bankruptcy judge approval to use money to fund early outs.

I guess I somewhat resemble this comment. I'm not super senior, but I am holding B757/767. You wont find many, if any senior captains bailing out to the Middle East of any other locale. I'm sure there are quite a few retired guys at DAL wishing they'd stayed.

There's a bit, although a very small bit of comic relief here from folks attempting to "armchair ceo" an outcome for those of us at AA. We'll come through just fine!

Boy, does that sound like management doublespeak!*

Think about that. The PBGC and anyone expecting a PBGC benefit will not be too happy to see AMR spend money to fund early retirements when they can't even fund normal retirements. I would think paying for early-outs might be problematic if they're planning to terminate people's pensions.

I agree, you'll be fine. But your wallet will be a lot thinner.
