[QUOTE=Clear Right;1131417] I have many friends at DAL that have equal or better longevity. My overall pay, seniority and quality of life is better than theirs. JetBlue compensation is just fine. Yes, our retirement can improve to industry standard, however my pay is just fine relative to all my friends at other legacy carriers with equal longevity.

You have to look at what seat you are in, not your years of service. If your thinking was correct then a captain at Jetblue with 5 years and an engineer at brand X with 5 years making the same $$ would be equal pay. NOT

I can understand not wanting ALPA but why not an in house union, just for your own protection.

AMR will be shedding their old Airframes but unfortunately "regional airlines" will replacing most of them sadly. I have seen this happen before . And the ultimate loser will be the workforce and customers.
To the AMR employees good luck. You are all gonna need it.

Don't stop there. If it happens here, it's only a matter of time before the same pressures knock on other doorsteps. America LOVES Walmart and thus America will soon get what it loves in the air.

Walmart has its limitations though and so will the future travel experience for most travelers.

People get for what it pay and for what they want to pay. Is a shame that everybody want a great service without paying for it. That's why we have regional planes, with regional service, because everyone want to fly cheap.

I think the Walmart culture it's been in the works for a few decades. Add the fact that in general employers don't want to pay well, to keep revenue, overhead and shares in chk. Add government after government allowing for legal outsourcing and we have the perfect storm. The United Stated loves cheap stuff, just because we Love to consume, but now it's more of a necessity to go cheap. Soon enough Walmart won't be cheap anymore. we all knew this was going in that direction, we just like to play stupid.

Pardon me for dropping in. I'm an aviation buff and interested in the "goings on" of the industry. I've done a little work in the industry (purchase/lease agreements) in years past and find the complexity of the industry fascinating.

The above quote is right on point. However, on this thread and a number of others on different forums, it seems to generate surprise or some kind of startled reaction by viewers every time an observation of a similar nature is posted.

This industry has been deregulated as far as pricing and service goes for nearly 35 years. The market determines everything. One can influence the market to a limited degree if one is part of the "wheels of capital" (labor in this case). However, the customer buying the service is going to be the entity that determines the nature and content of that service.

This industry is going exactly where the customer wants it to go. I gather that probably does not sit well with those who had fathers and grandfathers in the industry when it was regulated and "price-supported" by the Federal Government.

To go along with that,

How many buy a GM, Ford, Fiatsler rather than Toyota, Honda, Hyundai?

How many shop at Wal-Mart, Costco, BJ's?

How many have electronics built in China, Thailand?

We all want to spend less on our purchases, precisely so we can spend more on other things.

100% of Americans are consumers, only a small portion of us are airline pilots, techs, engineers, etc.

please do. (I am an aircraft mechanic BTW) you could see why I'm very concerned. Unlike the imbeciles that run the airlines (Or the FAA)
