Default USAir pilots please read

AA managing director of flight training. Never an Airline pilot. Please tell your powers that be, AA does this. AA MIA has a flight attendant as Pilot base manager. Nearly a Chief Pilot.

AA promoted Flight Attendants into mid/upper management. That is why at AA the Cheif Pilot VP of Ops is BELOW VP of Inflight.

To say we have a good training dept is "I can't say that"

777 training is easy and good. A breath of fresh air.

AA training dept is full of ahem Fifedom builders.

Chris *^%$#
As the Managing Director Flight Training, Chris has overall responsibility for planning, development, implementation and maintenance of all policies, programs and budgets necessary to accomplish all phases of American Airlines pilot training. This includes the Fleet Training programs, Program Development, Instructors, Crew Qualifications, Simulator Support, Simulator Evaluation, and multiple FAA functions, including the Approved Training Manual (Pilots, Flight Attendants, and Dispatchers), Advanced Qualifications Program, Flight Department Administrative Guide, FAA training directives, and Check Airman/Instructor tracking.

Born in Kinston, North Carolina, Chris moved to Dallas, Texas in 1973 and attended the St. Mark's School of Texas, graduating in 1987. Chris holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in General Business and multiple FAA certificates, including a dispatcher's certificate, instrument and commercial pilot - multi engine and all instructor certificates.

Before coming to American Airlines in 1993, Chris worked for flight schools and air carriers in Oklahoma and Florida. Since then, Chris has worked as a dispatcher at American Eagle, an operations manager at the DFW Ramp Tower, in numerous management positions within Flight Training, and in his last position as Managing Director Flight Training Operations. Since 1997, Chris has been tasked with training correspondence with the FAA and special projects such as the B737/B777 New Fleet Task Force and the Reno and TWA Integration Teams. Chris completed American's B737-800 training in September of 1998.

our current training department at US air was taken over by a man who specifically set out to get rid of the fiefdoms. The entire training department is standardized. It is designed to be a real world practical style of training. You are told what to know and learn before the test. You aren't expected to study on your own. It is a very relaxed and well rounded training environment. I have a feeling that he will be the new head of training for the combined airline.

I, too, hope BS gets to keep the job. I thought the training was great. They don't harp on little tiny things about the airplane. It's an overall knowledge of the systems and what to do if something goes wrong. I felt as if the theory behind everything was, "If you can't read it on a gauge or do anything about from the cockpit, you don't really need to know it." While it wasn't an easy program by any stretch, it was a gentleman's program. Plus, everything is standardized as much as possible from fleet to fleet, so transitioning from one airplane to another seems fairly painless. It appears as if the new SVP of Air Ops is bringing everything under his domain, so Inflight won't outrank Flight Ops. Inflight at Airways fell under the SVP of Ops.

I liked that i didn't need to study once on my off time and I still aced it all. Thats what a training program should be. All done in class and not at home. At skywest they made us come to class knowing out limitations and memory items! Can you believe that nonsense? Only airline I've ever heard of that does that.

I did feel that the Flows, SOPs and Callouts needed be known prior to class. However, you didn't need to have a knowledge of the system, just the triggers, where you were looking and what you were looking for.

I've ridden a few West jumpseats lately that haven't had anything good to say about the training. Hell, I got an earful about how our switches were backwards (since the IAE 321s on the West have the same switch configuration of the East).

As a newbie, I have absolutely no complaints with our training department. BS and JH have done a great job, in my opinion, with the Bus. I like the rumor that our ONE Memory Item is going away. AA seems to be very big on Memory Items.
