Part of the selection algorithm for Military people at AA is how soon are they available. If you can come to work in a couple of months, it picks up on that.

Makes sense. Although a couple of months is well inside of the panic timeline for getting out. The question is, will it change? (Just out of curiosity, I guess.)

The military is becoming an extremely volatile place for pilots planning on separating - whether it's after initial commitment, or getting threatened with a 6 month or 1 year non-flying deployment to end a 24 year career, purely out of spite for getting out.

Meaning - dudes are starting to ditch the dream airline idea for whomever calls first, just so they can get a plan/path in place to enable them to hit "submit" on retirement or separation.

(My plan is already in place, albeit a ****ty one.)

You should be ready to go to the first that calls anyway. It's not ditching your dream airline, it's getting a j o b while you wait for your dream airline.

I didn't get hired until 1 month before I went on terminal leave.

Valid.

You're a braver man than I! I'd have to shave something in place prior to that. I think, anyway. I'm staring down the barrel of regional life for a while it looks like anyway, so not much of a factor for me.

You have to give the Air Force 6 months notice on your separation. So most guys have to take the "leap of faith". Having a reserve job lined up helps. I had nothing lined up, and rolled the bones. It's a fine line between a hero and a goat, and it worked out.

Interviewed 20 march, class date 11 Jul. My availability was asap. Super pumped, and not complaining.. but i was really surprised on the long wait. I accepted the class date but said i could start immediately if a slot opened up last minute. Any idea if that's a possibility? .. or should i get a job at subway?

Thx!

I offered the same back in January and was told they don't allow standbys anymore.

I've never heard of anyone not passing the video interview. There has probably been someone but its pretty rare.

I've heard of a few guys not pass so it does happen. Very high pass rate but still prepare and take it serious.
