Welcome Aboard!!
Hopefully the hiring will remain solid.

If we come anywhere near 2018 projections, we should really see off the street hiring become significant

I urge you all to take a moment to compare the entire AA contract, employee relations, etc...before deciding where you want to spend the rest of your career. American Airlines is the only one of the big 3 that hasn't provided their furloughed pilots with FULL Length of Service. However, AAL did provide 2 years LOS to its pilots which is disgraceful considering every other airline including NetJets restored full length of service to their furloughed pilots as a result of 911. Delta Airlines-Full Length of Service....United Airlines-Full Length of Service AND Retro pay to its furloughed pilots. This is a significant difference between the contract at American Airlines and the other Legacy carriers!! It showed that ALPA supported the"Junior" pilots, and UAL and DAL were committed to better Pilot relations. Additionally, UAL, and DAL management were willing to share in the corporate profits made over the past few years. Those profits made possible, in part, by huge pay cuts and furloughs from our Pilot ranks after 911 and bankruptcy. Take a moment to compare contract differences like: calendar day, short term disability, long term disability, profit sharing, reserve system, Premium flying, etc.... American lags behind in all of the above contractual items. Below is a email blast we recently received from a group advocating for Full Length of Service and Retro at American Airlines. Pathetic they have to form a splinter group to achieve what UAL and DAL already have....!!

EXCITING NEWS - WE’VE LAUNCHED THE LOS NOW WEBSITE!
You’ve been asking for it and here it is!
LOSNOW.org will be a great place to get caught up on the latest news and happenings in and around the LOS Restoration/Retro effort. The website will have our email Blasts, the history of LOS, information on Delta’s and UAL’s achievements vs. AAL failures on this issue, and LOS Restoration/Retro Q&A.
The website also has a Messaging Board so we all can post, enabling conversations between us, exchanging ideas and helping motivate one another for upcoming events. It’s all intended to lay the groundwork to become a more united and active Community of engaged LOS Pilots. Our ultimate goal of keeping the LOS Restoration/Retro issue on everyone’s front burner is what it’s all about - until it is resolved once and for all.
A HUGE thank you to CS who built the site. C is looking for a co-admin who has experience with Wordpress, themes, and plugins. Please e-mail him directly if interested in volunteering.
Equal thanks must go to DS and GG for their hard work behind the scenes in facilitating our new Donation Link. It will, for the first time, allow everyone to support our LOS Restoration/Retro efforts directly.
Please help us help you by clicking on the Donation Button.
Give what you can, as little as $10 a month will help keep the LOS efforts moving forward and gaining momentum. All funds will be accounted for and will be used strictly to fund this new website, our email blast software, and upcoming solidarity swag such as wristbands and or bag tags. It all costs money which we are so far funding by individual largess only. We really want to spread out that financial burden so we can more effectively respond to as many of your good ideas as possible.
Over the next few weeks we will be shifting our focus primarily towards strengthening our internal organizational structures in order to become a more responsive and cohesive “Community of LOS supporters.”
It is absolutely vital that we be able to communicate easily with each other and the LOS NOW Messaging Board will go a long way to accomplishing that. We are also looking into other opportunities at contacting each other that are more social media based. Stay tuned.
We hope you are as excited as we are to have our own website. It’s a big step towards pushing the LOS Restoration/Retro effort along. With your support, we hope to make the website a huge success!
Come check it out.

While i feel for the furloughed guys it’s pretty well known the LOS campaign pretty much killed getting any calendar fixes before the next contract.

Oh well.

With all due respect what the hell does a new hire care about LOS?? You guys need to stop making your issue everyone else’s problem! Your insistence on providing for the few is costing the many including yourselves a lot!

While it doesn’t affect me I want LOS as other airlines have it. But is the union looking out for all when they shut down negotiations over this 🤔

No!!! Exactly my point. 10% of the pilot group has stonewalled progress for 100% of the pilot group. Stupidest thing I️ have ever been a part of.

Comparing UAL to AA I noticed some differences in the contract.

Calendar day which I am going to assume means UAL pilots get more productive trips than AA does. I also assume that means UAL fly a more even schedule vs AA that might schedule a 2 hr day on the 1st day followed by 7 hours of credit the next day. Do AA line holders work more days than UAL line holders is the real question for me. (I dont have the answer)
STD which UAL doesnt have at all but AA does.

Reserve rules for airport standby seem worse at UAL but I could be missing something. According to a friend of mine at UAL they hand out Airport Standby like candy and constantly revert everyone to short call ASAP. Sample size of 1.

Seems like dropping trips for zero credit is easier at UAL from what I can gather.

I have to agree that LOS protection isn't on most new guys radar because everyone thinks the party is never going to stop.

My thoughts exactly. Totally irrelevant topic for this thread.

AA gets a minimum average of 5:10 per day flown. So yes, you could get a 2 hour day followed by a 7 hour day - you would get 1:20 credit for that trip. The bigger issue is for trips with extended (24+ hour) layovers),which are credited by a minuscule amount for high ratios of time away from base to trip time. The push is to get a min calendar day, so that 5:10 would apply on a day with no flying.

As far as working more, min days off is probably a good general place to look. Lineholders must have minimum 10 days off, reserves must have 12-13 (depending on 30/31 day month).

To be clear, we don’t (and I can’t imagine we ever will) have airport standby. Long call to short call does happen, but a year of Reserve at Miami I think I only had it happen two times. It’s a seniority issue - only happens to the most junior guys.
