During, yes, sure..
After, no
FDP ends at IN time
FAR Rest starts at IN time + :01
Yes, contractual duty period is :15 after IN
Yes, rsvs are required to check for follow-on assignments... There is a whole set of flowcharts for that, AA / APA are positively addicted to complexity
They can notify the crew during flight, but not during sterile period. (No, I don't know how they know, but I do know how I know...)

I really hope he has been just getting hosed and you are correct.
Even if you are, calling in after a long trip for permission to leave stinks. checking in on the computer too.

I said it sucked
The truth is, y'all are going to be shocked at how much of this kind of suck there is in the vaunted Holy Grail, errrr.... I mean... Green Book
And how sincerely most of the LAA dudes think it's worth saving...

We definitely do not have to call for permission to leave the airport
When you are done, you are done, ck the computer and go home
If your friend is accepting add-ons, he has ignored very explicit guidance from APA, which was widely published and much spoken about during the 117/RSV implementation and negotiations last year, and he is being taken advantage of.
"If you let them do it to you..."
The requirement is to check for the next day's assignment, whether a flight or a RAP (short call period duty period), or nothing (Long Call... )

If they nail you in the airplane for the bonus two legs, do you then have to do it?
To me calling in and checking the computer is the same here is why
at LUS when you are done you are done, they cant even call you for 10 hours. Then they can and you have your usual report times.
With the LAA system when you check in they can say be back at the airport in 10 hours, enjoy your "rest"
Am I correct about the LAA method?

No...12 hrs between sequences. I've never called un to get cut loose. If you get in before 1600, yeah, you can be RA'd. After that, no. Once the door opens, you're on a 12hr rest unless they've sent you a RA over ACARS.

As US when you block in (say 7 am) you have 10 hours of rest plus 12 hour callout. You do the trip and you go home.
In that case you'd be off the next day because open time is assigned at 1 pm and you'll be on rest.
AA's contract is literally just like my commuter.
Maybe we went about this the wrong way, we should've been combining US's ALPA contract under the JCBA, not AA's. That guy who said we should run an ALPA drive had a great point. Do AA guys know how bad their 'contract' really is?

I'm guessing most of the LAA guys that think the Green Book is sacred don't have to worry about reserve? "Don't worry, son, you'll be senior someday."

And yet again the APA went for pay rates and nothing more.
Aren't the AA guys tired of this crap?
At this point I'd rather vote no, and shore up all the holes in the contract come 2018/2019. Forget the large raise, I'd be much happier with parity and a real contract, not the POS commuter Green Book.
