Because it doesn't exist.
Semantics. You do have to check you next day's schedule right?

I'm referring to LC reserve:
Responsibilities upon last block-in from last leg in a sequence. Check HI1/HI2 (whatever that is) for follow on assignment.

I really hope he has been just getting hosed and you are correct.

Even if you are, calling in after a long trip for permission to leave stinks. checking in on the computer too.
That's not an interpretation. Had a similar scenario with a reserve guy I was flying with a couple of weeks ago. Last day involved only one leg back to base. Per FAR117, once you block in (door open, clock stops) you cannot be assigned any duty until you have received 10 hours rest.

That doesn't preclude the company from requiring a crew-member to check in after that segment for an assignment more than 10 hours later, but the bonus turn as your walking out of the terminal isn't legal (per the Feds) any more.

One of the few good things in 117.

Block in. In rest (free from all company responsibilities). How is checking a computer not considered company responsibility?

Sooner or later, you will get the 64 page Reserve Users Guide and the 6 pages of flowcharts and glossy 8x10 Quick Reference Cards, which are actually really good products of the scheduling and Flight Time Duty Time Committees, and it will all become crystal clear

Meanwhile, we hqve answered the OP's questions
