I don't like it either, none of their business what we do on our time. Hell, we have people who need to focus a lot more on serving the customer, let alone serving people in a soup kitchen.

Most guys probably greatly exaggerate their volunteer activity.

Funny thing is, military guys are trained to go out and kill people because our politicians cannot figure things out and in order to get hired, they want a Boy Scout on their resume.

That ridiculous. I'm sure that guy had been on numerous deployments away from his family. If that isn't community service, I don't know what is.

I wonder if the wholly owned carriers are requiring volunteer work on the resume to get hired since a WO new hire will eventually be at mainline.

What is your concern with training? It's easy...

I'm not concerned with training as much as I hate being in DFW any longer than I have to. I was asking because I have a buddy in the pool who grew up in Delaware and was hoping to get PHL, but he wasn't sure if he'd move up the ranks quickly in the 190.

Those WO carriers require 1500 and a pulse. They can't afford to be picky like the legacies can.

Sorry if it hurts anyone's feelings but the military guys, almost without exception, volunteer.

And no one has any obligation to try and meet the standards a future employer might have. That's the beauty of freedom of choice.

He would and the 190 has just over a 1 year upgrade. Off reserve probably in 3 months.

There's always Delta, United, JetBlue and Southwest.

That's only because they need OPR bullets to get promoted.

I had a commanding officer mandate it (yes in addition to flying 5 days a week and 2 weekends a month, we had to either 1) Take Grad School courses or 2) do volunteer work) for all of his pilots if they wanted to be competitive in he squadron.

And they wonder why there's about a 70% attrition rate right now of separation eligible pilots in the USAF. Curtis Lemay is rolling in his grave...
