Default Any future Prospects on ANC 747?

I have some curiosity regarding the ANC 747 base. As my family is leaving in South Korea right now, ANC 747 base seems to be a great option. Atlas in my circumstances is a truly the best destination career.

As such, I wish to ask you guys a opinion about the future prospects of ANC 747 base. In this thread many people have mentioned that about 100~ 140 hours paytime a month is feasible in ANC , will it be also possible in the future? or is it just a temporary thing that now coming to an end ?

If it is just a nature of the ANC operation that makes ~130 ish paytime possible in ANC, I will be happy to work and dedicate my entire career happily in Atlas. lol

I will jump on this early, before others weigh in.

You should NEVER make plans on being able to sustain consistent overtime at Atlas, It does not matter what base, what equipment of what time frame. These things change constantly at Atlas. There may be pockets of crews that can maintain overtime for a while, but things tend to change quite frequently.

This advice comes from 30 years of experience at Atlas, the situations where certain pockets of crew members are able to maintain this kind of overtime will pop up every few years and then will go away. This is because customers, scheduling, override rules, etc ALWAYS change over time.

Thanks I got your point. Maybe it is just a nature of the ACMI job.As far as I know the BIG new MRO center in ICN will make ICN a crucial point for it's operation to ATLAS, so as long as company is safe commuting fro ICN maybe the last thing that I should worry about.

In regarding Paytime, I wonder whether whether it was usual for ANC pilot to earn more paytime than other bases in last decades.

30 years of experience is something that is so Big and Enormous that I cannot even imagine about it. I would like to just know people's estimation of ANC 747 in next 5 years time frame, after that it is up to God and I am ready to accept it whatever it may ends.

There have been some recent changes to our usual habits regarding international commuters too. To and from S. Korea with our metal should be pretty reliable, but you'll want to consider options when and if you need to commercial to ANC for a pattern.

I live in Cincinnati and was curious if any of the airframes come back to CVG during trips? Interested in applying for Atlas if there's a high QOL for someone living in CVG.

The 767 does, and to a lesser extent the 737. The planes that incur heavy rest(any flight scheduled over 12 hours with 4 crewmembers require double the amount of block time since leaving base in rest upon return to base - 747 and 777) are kept away from their base throughout their trip for the most part. The company circumvents that FAR by having, for instance, a CVG crew operate multiple 12+ hour flights but not returning to CVG mid pattern…but instead going to LAX, ORD, MIA, ANC, etc and then heading back to Asia or Europe.

There are many people on the 767 that either lived in or moved to CVG to improve their QOL and, while they did improve it slightly, the company still managed to use them and keep them away from home way more than they expected when they were hired or made the move to CVG. Several I know of regretted moving to base(unless that’s where they wanted to live anyways) because things changed a lot after they did resulting in less time at home than they expected.

Bottom line…don’t expect that the current situation will remain that way in the future with any airline.
