Then he should stay and upgrade.

The real question is where would you rather get stuck? A regional or Atlas? There is no guarantee that you get an interview anywhere else. I still have buddies sticking it out at the regionals holding out for the one major they want. What if they never call? Food for thought. No clue on what a major likes better on a resume.

To: Lawn and Realtalk,

If you haven't already, I would suggest reading this WHOLE thread...that gives you the best idea what Atlas is like, other than working here. There are also some threads on ************* and pprune.org.

You are the one in the best position to know for yourself whether it's better to stay or move to Atlas.

I agree... Get the PIC since you're almost there. Then come to Atlas. I don't know of anyone who didn't fill a diversity slot that got hired without PIC. The bottom line is that you need to check that box and you'll wait a long time at Atlas. What if you don't like it at Atlas or we furlough? What if the company goes under? Now you're stuck and you still have no PIC.

I know of a TON of FOs that are stuck here because they came with zero PIC. Part of me thinks the company likes zero PIC guys because it's difficult to leave without the company getting their money's worth.

Delta and United have dropped their 1000 hour PIC requirements and have hired many Regional F/O's. Im not sure about AA. Fedex still requires PIC. One is no longer fully "stuck."

FedEx only prefers PIC now.

I doubt they are stuck there. They may not be getting hired now but hiring has only begun to ramp up at the majors. To say they will never get hired, if they are in fact trying to leave,is a huge leap.

They'll get hired but they'd probably have been hired sooner with PIC time. If you're about to upgrade at a commuter you're crazy to come to Atlas right now and make 55 to 60 cents on the dollar of a major. The first 4 months you make what you were making on first year commuter pay. Why not just stay put add PIC to the resume and only change jobs once?

Of the people hired by majors in my squadron only 1 guy was hired with zero PIC in the last 15 years (UPS didn't realize in the interview that he had zero PIC). The rest were instructors and evaluators with one exception. One guy isn't an aircraft commander but has 1000 hours PIC at his former regional. I get it that some people get lucky but in the mean time build a strong resume.

I take it you never flew for a "commuter".
