I've been there and don't want that for you. I went through the last amalgamation and it's not pretty. Give your union 15 minutes, not purchase. Put that youthful energy into holding the line out there when you operate your aircraft. You don't need to say anything, talk is cheep. Use the way you conduct yourself on the line and operate your aircraft as your medium to communicate with those bastards.

DC8,

I always admire and read your posts with great interest. You know what's up and I appreciate the kind words.

See you out on the line!

Hey ya'll, quick question.

Read earlier that iPads are issued in training. Are they locked down pretty good as far as installing your own apps, like Netflix and such. On the fence about buying my own. Carrying a laptop for 17 days gets old, trust me...

BTW, March 14th 74 class. Currently at K4.

Thanks!

No not locked down at all. Feel free to install whatever apps you like they are 64gb version. Just be careful what you put on there. I wouldn't keep any personal email or pictures. Ipad can be looked at by purchase at any time. Not like I think they have time on their hands for that but just sayin:-)

I can't help you regarding the iPads being on lock-down, or not..
..but, I can definitely understand why you wouldn't want to tote a laptop around.

Do you mind sharing when you are interviewed?
-Thanks!

Forgot to check for the last page. Like Upntheair27 said, anything/everything you do on it can be viewed by someone in HQ. I wouldn't put anything personal on it (email, Facebook, banking).

Yeah, the company ipad has changed the way I conduct business...great tool.

However, I created a new Apple ID using my company email...I want NO personal apps and no personal connections (email, FB, Twitter, etc) on a company device including Skype, FaceTime, etc. I have no credit cards attached to it, and I conduct NO personal business on company devices.

Good luck and welcome.

You are all right. I have not been here very long and I haven't seen what you all have. I was trying to keep a little positivity that I thought would help our pilot group as a whole. I shall wholeheartedly withdraw my remarks and apologize to anyone I offended. I'm on your side and will do my part!

Cheers
Crazy Canuck,

No need to withdraw anything...I appreciate your words as it generates some debate. However, remember that since some of us have been here a long time, we have seen this company lie, cheat, and steal, from our pockets by the way the behave.

And that is all we are trying to get through to those like you that are new and those that are making plans. The company does have a good business plan and are indeed successful at what they do...but so are we.

And it is past time for us to get whats due to us...welcome to the fight. We'll take them on together and win.

All the best in your Giant career...and beyond!!

I gave up a laptop 3 years ago and just carry an iPad. It has everything I need on it. With 128GB I have more than enough space to store what I need. I do plan to get a keyboard but so far haven't found one I think will hold up to the rigors of this job.

Based on Union recommendations and privacy I have elected to not have personal accounts or info on my iPad. I did log into my personal account to download Goodreader because their reader is junk by comparison. But then deleted any info from my account. So that means I'll have to carry 2 iPads to be jeppesen/publications compliant.

Of course based on recent news earth regarding Apple's stance on privacy and encryption you could delete everything. But in the mean time there is a tracking feature in the agent app.
