I'm qualified on that aircraft, thus my peaked interest in Atlas.

I'm five airlines into this game and have been both FO and captain many times. To assume you figured enough out from four or five lines of a person's first post to justify a response like that was indeed condescending. Meanwhile, I'm slowly chewing through the thread trying to learn about yet another company.

I've been beat around and furloughed and flown with enough self-righteous first officers and captains to be a bit numb to most things, but really? Mine was an innocent question, for which my common sense and motivation was insulted with a rant better suited to a high school career day. I've heard the we hire captains speech many times before. If the call comes hopefully I'll be ready the same way I have been for other carriers I worked at; until then - it's just another day listening to people thump their chests.
Indeed the bottom line is that arrogance and chest thumping has been an issue. I have been flying heavy jets my whole career, since 1993. Not thumping my chest, but just wanting to help. I dont care what they have said. I'll help you out. Talon has been a great help too. PM me if you have any questions. I've never been with an airline. I have been a C-141 aircraft commander and C17 instructor and have crossed the Atlantic, Pacific, and the South American region many many times. My goal is to help guys like you. Ignore the arrogance. Those guys are bitter because they flew DC-8's for so long. Don't get the wrong idea about Atlas. We are nice and we are laid back. Yes the class is hard, but you can do it just like the rest of us can. Don't listen to the negetive Nancy's. If anyone wants help, email me at [email protected].

Ok, guys, let's not call each other names (or worse)...we've hired a lot of guys with a lot of experience. That's the marketplace right now.

As for calling a DC8 guy bitter because he has been flying them for a long time...is no different than naming a military guy getting a first civilian job at Atlas.

Let's just move on and give the help that these guys are asking for...first step is to do the basic research about the company, etc. Without reading the entire thread, even with all the chit-chat, one cannot get that kind of information.

And guess what? If a guy waits for that first phone interview to start the research, it just might be too late.

Good luck.

As for ZED travel, I haven't bought an airline ticket for my family of four in at least 10 years...and why travel on the lowest standby category?

Even if you end up buying tickets, there are some really good deals out there...if you have the time to plan a trip/vacation.

Good luck.

You're not the alone that's been snapped at. I read the entire thread, stated that I read the entire thread and was still bashed for asking an impossible question- what are the schedules like? They tried to rip me a new one. I thought what it'd be like flying with some of these guys and asking them to describe a snowflake. That's impossible since they're all different, right? Luckily, one the most helpful people on here posted specific examples of what his schedules have been like in his time at Atlas...so simple.

That said, this thread is the best resource for good info on Atlas. There are enough guys that will provide useful intel without breathing too hard. I sent a few PMs to guys who seemed helpful and it worked. May work for you as well.

I don't know if this is widely used or not, but there is an easy way to find things on this (or any other) thread without having to read every page. At the top right of the thread page there is a button labeled "Search this thread". If, say, you are looking for interview information click that button, type in "interview" and you'll be presented with a list of every entry on the entire thread that has to do with that keyword. Hope this helps!

Yes Talon, that does help. I am in the process of going through the Thread more than a few times. Also thank you 744Driver and thank you C17Trap for your information and your patience. Thank you too to forumname for your input to my question. Greatly appreciated!! I submitted my Res and PAQ exactly 3 weeks ago today. I've been at my Regional now for for over 12 years, CA for 10 years of it, and I haven't interviewed in that time span either. Trying to knock the rust off.

KCheese,

All this thread does is to provide some like you that are looking for an edge over the competition...what is wrong with getting that edge here (and other sites) even if you have to put up with tangents?

However, the only way to get that edge is to make yourself available to any and every piece of intel you can gather. Even if you have to deal with said tangents. And even if you have to (sit at a local coffee shop) and read ALL 192 pages (so far)...

Good luck.

The Thread does have plenty of very good information throughout and I don't mind going through it one bit. Thanks to ALL the guys (and gals) that have been generous enough with their time to help the ATLAS potential new hires! I was brand new to not only The Thread, but APC Forums in general when I posted my questions to Shaftoe and C17Trap. They had just finished portions of the interview process and I was trying to gather some of the most up to date and freshest interview/test information while it was still fresh in their minds. Was not planning on ruffling any feathers. Going through The Thread now as we speak.

I believe the next class is August 22 and it may be for the 767.
