Our lead steward, a 4 yr 767 Capt, a tireless union volunteer, a stud in our ranks... just resigned and is headed to UPS... anyone still think there's a chance this gets sorted soon? Not me...

Anyone know what the new dispatch wage will be?

Yeah that's the ticket, take your toys and leave, that will show them! And while you're at it, go ad hominem too! And we wonder why they won't negotiate with us.

BTW it's a company paid duty period with company execs during which you say you would pull that ill advised stunt. Sounds like a great way to wind up in a section 19 hearing. There's probably a more productive way to handle the situation that resides somewhere above the third grade level...

I would have been better to point out to Mr. Dietrich that he is a lawyer, just like I am a pilot. I could go around and tell everyone that I am a businessman also, but my resume says "pilot". His resume says "attorney". Everybody has dreams of grandeur, I suppose.

He keeps this up, Mr. Flynn may find a new COO after all this is settled. The fact that Mr. Flynn came to charm school calm the campesinos and "rap" with them tells me that Mr. Dietrich has a credibility issue.

My comment was more satirical than serious. Im sorry, but as a Southern Air pilot, that just made me angry (Dietrich, not you).

Can family travel on ZED tickets without the employee?

I had heard that shortly after Atlas purchased Southern, Atlas Sr. Management went to the Southern Exco asking for 2 or 3 years peace with no negotiations in exchange they would put Southern Pilots on the same CBA (Pay as well) as Atlas.

Your EXCO said no.

Can't remember where I heard this so maybe it was false?

I heard you are one of the worst pilots to fly with at Atlas and many do what they can to avoid having to work with you.

I smell some kind of buy out or change in company configuration. There's too many actions across the company and share holders that indicate as much. Guessing we'll hear something in the next couple months.

Maybe Atlas management is just holding the fort down and maintaining status quo till Amazon buys them?

Are they required to buy someone?

They need a ton of pilots for what they want to do. They won't hit that number without paying someone in this environment. Their best option is to buy up companies like Atlas and pay the pilots enough so they don't bolt for other airlines. Just my opinion. How long does that take? Who knows... In my opinion Atlas (or whatever it becomes) won't be industry standard for 10 years or more.

A weak attempt to threaten and intimidate the pilot group. Union busting 101.

"SG" is one of our Son Air passenger birds. I have no idea what happened...

Training Center is indicating future 747 classes every 3 weeks; increasing class size from 16 to 24 slots.

Conspiracy theory-Lure new hires into the glorious 747 and then reduce 747 crews and force junior F/Os into the 767. I should be in upper management!!

Exactly...

Congratulations on being hired by Atlas Air! We were planning to hire you into the 747 when you interviewed but our staffing needs have changed. Now, we are only offering classes for the Southern 737 for the foreseeable future.

Unfortunately we can't make decisions for everyone. A mature adult would be smart to just say, "Nope. Call me when you have a slot on the 767 or 747 at Atlas." That is unless it's an unemployed 22 year old living at home with Mom and Dad in CVG. Then maybe...

Sigh.... I've heard this one far too many times. I think Atlas was a career mistake for me. I'd be a mil instructor by now and all of those guys in my peer group have been hired at forever airlines...

The voice in the back of my head keeps telling me to look at Atlas. I know the lawsuit between the pilot group and management is not good and the relationship has been suffering for a long time.

The first year pay is a little concerning but it seems like everyone is keeping busy flying if they want to fly. The school house being backed up will slow things down but from what I have been reading those who are on reserve are flying +70 hours a month. Upgrades appear to be moving quickly. A 2017 hire could potentially hold the left seat in as early as 2 years from what I am seeing here.

My biggest concern I see is the stuff about imputed income. What it looks like to me is the company will pay for hotels and flights to/from the job/training but they will basically charge you for it via taxes. Am I getting that right?

I'm not looking to get talked into joining or talked out of staying away I am just trying to form the best opinion with the pros and cons of each company I think I would be interested in flying for.

I live in Metro Detroit and I've already looked at K4. It looks like they are just barely scraping by with flights but Atlas looks like it is a beehive of activity. Although appearances can be deceiving.

Falcondrivr 04-24-2017 05:14 PM

Here's the way imputed income works as far as I understand it:
The day before your trip, Atlas Buys you a ticket from KDTW to PANC. This ticket costs $1000 (example as I have no idea.) They also buy you a hotel room to get your rest in prior to your report time. The room costs $200. You have recieved $1200 of "income" in the eyes of the IRS that was not actually required for you to do your job as you COULD live in PANC. The company has to calculate the paycheck withholding as if you made that $1200 in regular income and withold it from your paycheck. Atlas doesn't get to keep it. Thye have to send it to the IRS with the rest of your paycheck withholding.

WhiskeyKilo 04-24-2017 05:59 PM

Do I get that money back on tax day? This also seems like a great way to rip off the pilots for no benefit to the company.
