The reason for having a contract is so that there is one set of rules, not everyone making their own...remember, they run an airline for the benefit of their customers and the return on investment of the shareholders...not the convenience of employees. Home basing is a pretty nice thing, but being offshore is your decision and responsibility.

Is the company flexible on this at all? By this I mean it is often cheaper to buy a ticket which goes NRT-LAX than ANC-LAX. Will they look at the cost in this situation or is it an absolute necessity to originate in the US?
Also, heard of a guy who was to DH multiple ATlas legs out of the states and stay in a few hotels. They ended up buying him a ticket direct from the US to his initial trip starting point in Europe/Middle East after a few days of R1 at home, as that was cheaper for the company than the original DH/hotel plan.

Atlas has lots of guys that live in foreign countries: Canada, Norway, Italy, Dubai, Brazil, Phillipines, SE Asia, etc., etc. They have figured out their travel, as there are only gateways in the 50 US states.

It may be reasonable today, but depending on the situation, and the city pairs involved, it may not work...so, plan ahead, and plan on spending your own time (days off) to make it work.
If you plan conservatively, it can work...it is NOT the Company's responsibility to get you to an assignment from outside the 50 US States.
Several of the guys that commute from outside the 50 States, have ended up buying very expensive tickets because something in their well-conceived plan did not work out...
So, beware, you have been warned!!
