Splitting hairs is a slippery slope for me. Actual time in the seat vs. scheduled? Time in the bunk? Time in the jump seat during TO/LDG? Time in the jumpseat doing OPS Calcs or aircraft logbook? Duty time but not in seat - in the lav or galley?
Too much for my tired brain.
Now, PIC time I do split. If I sign the flight plan, I log it as PIC. Obviously the Captain logs that same time as PIC, but there are other instances where two crew members can log PIC simultaneously (i.e. CFI with a licensed pilot doing training) and even though I'm not getting the big bucks, I'm typed and if my signature is on it, I'm logging it.
YMMV

That does make it interesting. If the designated CA goes on break and decides that one FO will now be acting as PIC, (with the release signed, no less) why would this not count as bona fide PIC time in a subsequent interview?

Anyone out there interview recently that wouldn't mind sending me a PM? Just trying to prepare for the interview. Heard it's a thorough one.

Because airlines don't care about that as it is just a technicality. They only care about the real deal. Are you really going to explain, during an interview, that the 1500 hours of 747 PIC time on your resume was while making position reports at cruise?

One of us has to sign the FLT plan when the CA rests, but I don't have any delusions about logging that time. Just keep the coffee pot going!

Because airlines can define PIC any way they dang well please. It's legal to log it, but don't be surprised if it's a topic of great interest in a future interview.

For me, it's as simple as acting as PIC vs., well, simply being the PIC.

I really don't have a dog in this fight, but this is an interesting topic nonetheless. Is there any law that prevents the pic from giving command of the aircraft to someone else in flight? If not, and this isn't the acting vs. logging debate, why would it not count as legit PIC time?

If 2 FO's are flying and there's an ATC deviation, who's responsible?

Again, just playing devil's advocate here. I'm just an RJ driver who wouldn't half mind being at atlas...

For those in the know. When did the latest rounds of calls go out? I just submitted my resume on Friday. How quick can I expect to get a phone call if I've made the cut?

In the absence of any clearly defined, and specifically worded definition of PIC on an airline application, during an interview I would be happy to discuss and defend my logging of flight time as PIC in an aircraft in which I am type rated and have signed the release/flight plan as "acting PIC" per company ops specs.
