Sounds like someone needs to make a suggestion. 5.5hrs from NZCH to McMurdo. 5 back.

Is that how long it takes flying a big, fat, grey airplane at .68? Knock at least an hour off that in a 74.

It was a phenomenal .74-.76 thank you. It wasn't made to be aerodynamyic. Just deliver lots of stuff after burning lots of gas. But at least its still younger than me, my kids, and most playboy models. Can't say that about much of the current air force equipment.

Was sitting on the ramp at Yokota AB (Tokyo) in my DC8 preparing to depart for Paya Labar AB (Singapore). A nearby C-17 loaded up and taxiied out about 20-30 minutes before we blocked out.

7+ hours later we're getting in the van to ride over to customs in Singapore and here comes that same C-17 taxiing up to the ramp!

Yeah, but that C-17 was only getting fuel and pressing on for another 7-8 hrs. Hey, is the old guy still at the base of the tower with his awesome Thai fried rice?

To get things back on track, it sure seems like there is A LOT of open time available this period. Hopefully that bodes well for future hiring.

It's the silly season (4th quarter). A lot of flying to be done. 1st quarter will be dead.
