This has been dragging out back and forth for years, but Germany just got very decisive and went all-in on F-35's to replace it's Tornadoes. F-35s are nuclear capable...

It appears that 100+ year guesstimate of yours is compressing considerably.

So were the Tornadoes. The Brits originally had their own tactical nukes for them, WE-177 IIRC. The Luftwaffe were to carry some of ours if the balloon went up.

B-61s I heard, but that’s only a rumor. The German government doesn’t want to talk about it much.

Don't the Russians have 10:1 numerical advantage in "tactical" nukes?

Gotta close that tac-gap! Vote some more billions for defense contractors ASAP.

I'd be really surprised if half the inventory still works anyway. There hasn't been a test of an actual nuke warhead (officially, anyway) of the US inventory since 1992.

Then again, half should be plenty.

Aside from the B61, does the US still have tactical nukes?

BS.

Germany already has nuclear-capable jets (Tornadoes), and the weapons to go with them (dual-key with US).

The debate was whether to replace them with non-nuclear capable fighters. They decided to stick with the system they currently have, vice dis-arming. Seems prudent, in light of recent events.

So nothing changed, other than they went for max capability, vice made-in-europe.

Yes, that was the point, to retain the capability. No comment on which specific weapons, but it doesn't really matter much.

Lots of people do. The "nuclear capable" reference is more about NATO commonality, certification and good practices.

Israel, if they really wanted to, could drop nukes out of a C-130 or a caravan.
