Just before the Christmas break during UPT, our T-38 squadron commander told the class: "Here's how it will go. You'll meet your old buddies in the local bar and they will say 'Wow!' and 'How fast does it go?' and ask some stupid questions. After a few minutes of trying to communicate with them, it will become clear that you now live in a different world, and can never return to theirs."

I just know. Delta pilots just know.

Dammitt...Leffe Blond all over my screen "AGAIN"! Anyhow...he's 6 and has almost 20 hours of Republic Seabee time in his logbook, so I'm a yes. Money for nothing and your chicks for free. Cheers

I'll ask my wife to give you an extra dose of Fentanyl next time you go in for surgery . . . foreigner compliments! By the way, when is your wife and kids traveling again?

The question is why? Are there not enough US citizens to fill the demand? Why are so many doctors coming from Central and SE Asia? Most or many McDonald's are staffed with non english speaking Latino's, etc... Middle Class kids don't want to do those jobs... but a doctor?
Try this one: tell your kid/friend/neighbor who is 18 that for the next 10 years you will study/work 80 hours a week, put your life/friends on hold, and get paid nothing, to become a Dr.
See if their enthusiasm matches their Millennial attitude towards life, and ironically turns away to watch his/her favorite reality show . . .

Yeah, got it... as I suggested it in another thread... the question was for the poster I responded to... why in the US are kids not wanting a professional career... and the thread evolved, even with a poster talking about his own kid enjoying life without direction.....

meanwhile those who control industry are simply handing the keys to a US middle class lifestyle to third world people who have the motivation....

So it goes back to the my first response... who do you want flying our jets.... many have responded that they don't want their kids to be pilots... so just like doctors they don't mind if third world people are giving us healthcare or flying our jets...

Follow?

hear me out Timbo... I think I have a business idea.

Basically, have her come over for a pool party or meet her at dinner with him and give this girl a mission. $500 to show up, $1000 if he goes back to college or joins the military.

Have her say in so many words "the only guy I'm looking for gets up early, works hard, studies, has a goal in life. I don't want some guy living at home... with his momma."

As I typed this I realize, I think there is a movie about this. Still. It's a universal idea.

BTW, I no longer have a second idea.
Timbo, there was a picture of Kate Upton enjoying a popsicle on the front of GQ magazine. I guess it went away.

I wouldn't recommend this career to a kid but I wouldn't discourage it either. I would absolutely encourage going the military route vs the civilian way. The civilian way has become too expensive and no way I would open my wallet that much. If I had a kid I would recommend joining the military because I am never just writing a blank check for school. It is sad to think when I was doing my training it was only $40/hr for a 152 and I was able to buy a block of 100 hrs multi time for $6000(most of it split time)

That's exactly what I do as well. I make sure his family knows just how low they really are and that he is my "subsidiary."

Uniform or not, I can tell... and his children need to know where their father really stands on the double breasted food chain.
