How many carriers who do operate an A-320 and B-737 will hire a guy at 1500 hours? Probably none.

It used to be that the quickest way to end a CAL interview was to show up with a 737 type rating and zero time in type.

Was this before the Post-9/11 benefits would pay for an ATP in conjunction with 737 type rating? I have a heavy mil background and am still currently flying the C-17 with 3600 TT and 2500 PIC. I would rather take my ATP checkride in a 737sim at HPA versus a Seminole over a long weekend.

As a military transition I'm sure that a 73 type along with your ATP, paid for by GI Bill would be fine. It only makes sense, especially since it's mostly paid for.

They might be more suspicious of an 8,000 hour RJ captain who just up and bought a 73 type one day...there's only one explanation for that: LUV

That was exactly why I got my type. I know someone on here said that you can use the GI for your ATP, but I couldn't find a place. So I went with HPA and the GI bill paid 100%. SWA is not one of my top choices, so I was worried about how the 737 type would look to other airlines. I plan to explain exactly as it happened...it was free, and it exposed me to heavy flying since I've flown single seat mentality for the last decade.

I'm pretty sure the top tier airlines aren't too concerned about one leaving for SWA. Why would you leave a comparable paying job, take a temporary pay cut, loose valuable seniority and start over? I could see it being a consideration at a lower paying airline. If it hurts me...so be it, I'm not going to loose sleep over it.

You're fine, I was addressing the OP's original question.

You should get the rating.

In the last hiring wave (ripple really) only FDX/UPS got paid enough to not be tempted by SWA. Even after 5 years, many legacy pilots might consider the jump.

I don't think anyone will strictly rule you out for possessing a 73 type, but they certainly might inquire as to why you have one.

I have almost 1500 hours TPIC, granted single engine time, so if I get my 737 type I can go to SWA? May have to look into it

I kid. I kid
