Leaving Emirates, which major to go to?

FWIW Emirates are doing some heavy passenger marketing in the US at the moment and that's not helping the US Legacies. Marketing stunts like giving away tickets to the audience on "Ellen" (despite the fact the UAE is one of the most homophobic countries around) and sponsoring the LA Dodgers then having the cabin crew "play ball", are the sort of slick tricks they use to woo the consumer. Sickeningly, people fall for it.

That's cool. I've read of more than a few ME3 pilots returning to the US and finding it difficult to get an interview with a legacy. I don't think, as some suggest, being blackballed. I'm merely positing a likely reason for the legacies showing lukewarm interest in ME3 pilots until they've flown with another US carrier.
In addition to the studies, I've heard more than a couple of instructors comment on pilots transitioning from the right seat of wide bodies to the left seat of narrow bodies.
My intent was not to crap all over the OP; just let him know that there's likely to be a short intermediate stop before being hired by a legacy.

What I would recommend for any pilot coming from ME3 or from overseas in general is to do a very thorough check of your application and then perhaps pay an agency to look it over. These days, it's a computer picking people... all this hogwash about "stick and rudder skills" is just that - hog wash.
One thing is for sure - I'm willing to bet some serious beers that ME3 pilot stories (or expat stories for that matter) are far more interesting than the same old US regional airline pilot stories.

You can always do things to get your stick and rudder skills sharpened up. Go rent a light airplane throw on a hood and do some steep turns and slow flight, take some aerobatics lessons. This is simply not a big deal. I train competition aerobatics on the side. Keeps the old stick and rudder skills and the scan razor sharp. It is amazing what trying to doing an ultra slow roll to sub ATP standards (+/- 25') does for your scan.

Cripple???? I think you are overestimating the numbers here....., it would be a short term issue for them sure....., but all they would have to do is offer reverse rosters to western cities (mostly the EU) and commuting roster patterns with DEC positions and voilà....! All the pilots they need from Europe where the jobs market is really not so good and there are many pilots spread all over the world on contract..., the opportunity to have time at home in Europe while flying for EK will be very enticing to many of them I'm sure.

My comment stands...., I know that many pilots say it will never happen..., and probably it won't, but if EK finds themselves in dire traits..., they will crew their airplanes anyway they can

Wow...., I'm touched....! You really have been keeping it deep inside that I called you out on your sexist comments about the female EK pilot that you outed here...! Yes, I read the comment before you edit it? LOL!

But keep feeling for poor Ashley Fashionista (oops I did it again). Sure she got to look glamorous on Ellen, but American, Delta, and United aren't calling. Wonder why? Stand by your comment, but shockingly no one that has actually worked there thinks your opinion is worth a crud.

People go to the ME3 or elsewhere for a variety of reasons. Once you get there and it's not what you bargained for, no one stops you from leaving. You pay the remainder of your bond and off you go. You knew this when you signed up.
It's not the life for everyone and everyone's situation is different. It's always interesting to hear someone ***** about how terrrible it is/was after they leave having spent a decade there or else from someone who has never been there but just heard from someone.

Anyone actively misrepresenting pilot life at the ME3 as glamorous is as worthless as a scab. FWIW ran into a few ex EK newhires at UAL that have clearly told me no amount of money is worth the mental and physical damage Emirates expects long term.
