This was posted recently by a man I respect in the industry.
1. ALPA does business 99% of the time with one vote one airline. This means that votes dont include your big or little Crew counts. In 10 years of ALPA work I saw "role call votes" less than a hand full of times. During role calls the large 2-4 groups can split anyway allowing the small groups to make the final choice.
2. ALPA not taking us. This is really an unfair statement to make about K4 and ALPA. Who knows, maybe 1224 is making contact with ALPA to try this un-democratic strategy . It will fall on deaf ears. Holding a group back by burning exit bridge is reason alone to want to leave.
3.ALPA has had some swings and misses thats true. In the last 20 years we have seen approx 50 bankruptcys and shut downs with cataclysmic terrorist attacks and a fuel price spike that damn near shut down the industry. Teamsters or ANY Union would not be able to alter the unprecedented negatives .
4. Every Pilot group that is not ALPA is riding the coat tails of the great work they are doing- split drug samples,FFDO, Known Crewmember,ASAP, the list is to long to complete.
5. Large airlines limiting career advancement of smaller ones...This can happen via scope etc. ALPA pilots are no different than Teamster pilots ,they want to do as much flying as they can for each members company. WE did the same limiting to scope for Kalitta Charters 2 pilots... Anyone want to see our flying go to K2 ? Its a fine line of protection vs Brotherhood. Always has been always will be.
6. I have no Idea why Atlas leadership has acted the way they have. For the EXCO Chair to take a swipe at Scott in his last communication in the first paragraph is unprecedented and had full vetting approval from all sources -1224 wide...
7. Going to our own local or having Atlas split into a local is just not going to happen. Dan Wells started a fresh term yesterday with a stronger slate than he had last time. I would think we will ALWAYS have someone from Atlas at the top. I dont blame them,we would do the same thing with 1700 votes.
8. If all you care about is our next contract ,1224 has every intention of opening each section, a 5-6 year journey as we have seen. Hey each section needs some sprucing up thats true, but at what cost? If we open 5-7 sections the time compression could be much shorter. Still lots of heavy lifting, but less change in less critical sections could mean short cut to new CBA on big items.
9. Teamsters is a Damn fine group I have been proud to be a part of. Paul Rutter is a great and talented young man ! In my view he is quietly becoming a legend . I also think very highly of Capt. Bourne. We sadly have hit a brick wall with respect to 1224 structure that isnt going to change.
10.Very few times do you hit a brick wall and stand up to a better option. ALPA has better everything than Teamsters. A-Z its set up by Pilots for Pilots.

Read the letter from the Union. Regarding ALPA, they are not allowed per agreement, as the Teamsters know, to tell us anything nor assist us in any way. For our union to try and twist that fact to their advantage speaks as to just how inept and desperate they are. Rather than debate the minutia in the letter I would ask all interested parties to just read or re-read the post Above He has been on the other side of this issue as a teamster rep for a while now. I give what he writes more weight than the letter from the union.
