In the virtual job fair the other day they said they have 35 in a hiring pool. Plan to hire 55. (unsure if that’s including the 35 in the pool or in addition to). Classes will be 8 new hires and 4 upgrades. Next class in March will only be 4 new hires though. They said currently not conducting interviews but will be to fill the remaining slots.

No, I just think common sense has finally prevailed. OE is the choke point for the moment and upgrades that really need to take priority over new hires. Fleet plans are still the same, just not as fast as first hoped. Last I heard the plan was still for approximately 200 pilots by the end of the year and smaller classes instead of the large ones we’ve been seeing.

The more measured balance of 8 new hires and 4 upgrades every (#?) weeks will be more manageable. No information was shared regarding class dates beyond March 1st.
That growth rate is much more sustainable, but if they can't fly the planes that they're offered the offers/planes could go elsewhere (other cargo outfits, iAero, Sun Country, Mesa, etc). My uninformed perspective is that the "Amazon" carriers are trending away from the DHL and DoD contracts as Amazon demands more lift, leaving those contracts up for bid.
Side note: Those that already interviewed and did not receive a "pool" email are supposedly no longer in consideration, but no idea if they got a TBNT. Check those spam/junk folders.
To any union volunteers on here: On behalf of those who are still hopeful of a job offer, please negotiate a short-duration initial contract (3-4 years) so any drastic omissions can be remedied.

Nobody is "trending away" from anything, especially DoD. DHL is doing a lot of bottom fishing lately, and Amazon has moved some stuff around, but nobody in this business is voluntarily giving up anything. In this business, as is true just about anywhere, it is not wise to put all of your eggs in one basket.
