Predictions for the Purple Poolies
#211
According to my information, FedEx is polling the poolies
No specific date was given for a class they just wanted to guage how many poolies were interested in the FDA's.
It would be just a WAG but I was thinking that a call in late Jan or Feb for a late MAR or APR class might be appropriate.
It is also my feeling that the poolies would be offered to remain in the pool but if FedEx was to call persons outside the pool, the offer would be for a FDA only option. Poolies would get to remain in the pool if they choose not to take the FDA option whereas those outside would not retain their status with FedEx if they didn't accept.
I have no idea when the FDA's will open.

FDA Start Dates
Paris is targeted for a May 2008 start date. Initially, the base will
have two operating 757’s growing to seven operating 757’s by Peak 2008 and
nine operating 757’s by March 2009. We expect to start moving pilots to
Paris in the April/May 2008 timeframe at a rate of 8 to 10 pilots per
month.
The Company anticipates opening the Hong Kong domicile in the March 2008
timeframe. The results of this bid will determine how pilots are
activated into the base but you can expect approximately 8 to 10 pilots
per month beginning March 2008 through December 2008.
Subic Bay will close on December 27, 2008. We anticipate a seven to eight
month transition out of Subic beginning early summer 2008 (again, roughly
8 to 10 pilots per month).

I am curious why the company would do this when they have been actively calling the poolies to determine interest and opened the hiring website to update information for pilots that already have their applications on file (no new applicants; sorry )
I would speculate that if the company did reopen the bid, that there would be a mass exodus due to the 65 retirement change and the likelihood of stagnation for a few years.
Thoughts anyone???

Im sure the company does not want to hire any more new pilots. We have heard we are WAY over manned.
As for reopening the bid, the guys who thought they were retiring now have an opportunity to be sent overseas for a few years as they finish their career.

Of course, take any info on 757 start dates with a grain of salt, as we no longer have a 757 training department.

I thought there were instructors in training right now? Is this not accurate? I know of at least one individual who just finished 757 school.
