Are the cars as easy to obtain and maintain for a foreigner as are the licenses?

Thanks for taking the time to spread some info.... I did get an email from the company a few weeks ago telling me I'd be getting all kinds of info in the coming weeks. Sadly, but not unexpectedly, that was the only info I received! I'm still standing by though, just in case.
Huadu is three hours from Guangzhou. I am sure it is possible but is that too far for you to drive? Since that is about 12 hours worth of driving for me to go check it out, I have opted not to go look at this. I know “CloudSailor” is coming over here so perhaps he may look at this and report back.

You can obtain a car here in China without any problem. The cost of the car includes the insurance. Each year you will pay additional fees to the Government to cover the cost of insurance. I priced a 3 series BMW and the cost was 390,000 YUAN which includes license plate, tax and insurance, then each year you would pay more money for insurance. The conversion to USD would mean a 3 series in China would cost you $52,953 US Dollars vs. buying the same car in the U.S would cost you about 34,000 MSRP. That’s a difference of 18,953 US Dollars. Now I know you probably wouldn't go out and buy a brand new car but the above reference was used to give you a comparison on vehicles in China vs. US. I looked at a modest small new apartment for purchase in Zhuhai. It was a real bargain completely finished with appliances for about 14,000 Yuan per Square Meter. The apartment was 137 Square meters and the larger apartment was 157 Square meters. That equates to 260,424 Dollars for the smaller unit and 298,442 US Dollars. It is my understanding that Chinese Banks will provide mortgage’s to foreigners without being married to a Chinese National. I was under the impression before that you had to be married to a Chinese National to get these financial instruments.

I think rental would be a wise option for a new hire unless they have money to invest. The prices per square meter will continue to rise and as this occurs and the Yuan to Dollar ratio continues on its course, you will make a very handsome profit.

I will try to take pictures.

Must be a different "Huadu".

The CAN airport is actually located within the Huadu district of Guangzhou. The little bit of information I've been able to find indicates that there are places to live that might be suitable, but I'm unsure of food shopping availability and it seems that a private vehicle would be required. Info on the internet seems really hard to come by. Just thinking it would be nice to have a decent sized house within 15 minutes of the airport instead of living in a high-rise somewhere in one of the surrounding packed cities.

Is it common for private parties to sell second-hand vehicles? I haven't been able to find ANY on the internet.

Thanks for all the info, BTW.

My fiancée’s sister will show you around if you choose to look at Zhuhai.

Just pm me if you're coming here and I'll give you her information.

Brown,

I will go to Guangzhou and see what I can find out. Yes, you can buy vehicles secondhand without any problem. Local paper, word of mouth, secondhand lots....

Brown,

I just got back from Huadu. Huadu was a 2 1/2 hour ride from Zhuhai. You might as well consider the CAN Airport and Huadu as the same. Huadu is 10 minutes from the airport and the town is growing like gangbusters; sorry about the previous posting of Huadu being 3 hours from the airport, I believe my Fiancée was thinking the old airport. Huadu is a beautiful growing city with modern conveniences and a lot of new housing going up. This was once a very rural community so you will see some clash of rural and modern within a 10km distance. I am absolutely exhausted from the 14 + hour trip and will give a full report on this and my other findings after Christmas.

I've got some great pictures and a lot of research to divulge. If anyone has any interest in checking out places to live other than HKG, and want to get into the PRC (Mainland China) and unless you are fluent in Mandarin, I highly recommend that you work with an interpreter. My fiancée' and her sister can set you up with any trips to look at housing especially in Shenzhen, Huadu, Guangzhou or Zhuhai. I can't believe I am saying this but I think Huadu is the perfect match! If you are interested in a tour, a private car can be arranged. PM me if this is something that you would like set up.

Hope everyone has a great and safe holiday.

Regards,

Default International Schools in Guangzhou

For those interested in Haudu that have children, there are several international schools listed in Guangzhou.

Here is a link for a couple of them...

http://www.state.gov/m/a/os/1276.htm

http://www.gnischina.com/

http://www.aisgz.edu.cn/

You can also do a google search for more schools.

I will write my report after Christmas.

I hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas and a safe and Happy New Year!

Regards,

Whale...

Looks like the company needs to put Whale on the property ASAP and pay him some extra management pay for "special projects..."

By my count, he has generated about 300% more SA on any China living options than the union or company combined.

Nice work bro... I ain't going, but thanks for helping those that are.

Thanks Albie,

I appreciate your comments.

Listen everyone... What are your thoughts on continuing my report on this post or create a new one "CAN FDA Report" or something like that. Opinions please. I will leave HKG in about 4 hours. I will check this in about 30 hours when I get home.
